Rusedski out until 2004
Greg Rusedski has confirmed that he will not play again in 2003 by withdrawing from next week's Paris Masters.
The British number two has been sidelined with a back injury that he picked up during Great Britain's Davis Cup defeat to Morocco last month.
Paris is the final event of the year on the ATP Tour, ahead of the season-ending Masters Cup for the top eight players in the Champions Race.
British tennis chief David Felgate told the BBC Sport website earlier this week: "It's been hugely frustrating for Greg just when he thinks he's getting back from injury.
"He laid everything on the line in the Davis Cup. Hopefully he can get himself fit and ready for next year and we'll see what he can do.
"I think it's on a day-to-day basis at the moment."
Roger Federer also looks set to miss Paris because of a back injury he suffered on Thursday before his defeat to Ivan Ljubicic at the Swiss Indoors.
Federer has already qualified to play in the Masters Cup in Houston, but failure to make Paris would end his hopes of finishing the year as world number one.
Marat Safin, Carlos Moya and Yevgeny Kafelnikov have also pulled out of the Paris Masters.
