McEnroe's temper was as fierce as his forehand
John McEnroe
"You cannot be serious?"
If you've ever heard someone shouting that at the telly then you've got John
McEnroe to blame.
McEnroe was famous for losing his rag over close line calls and made the
phrase his own way back in 1981.
His arguments with umpires saw him rant, rave, swear and throw his racket all
over the court.
But McEnroe's rage was a result of being fiercely competitive.
How to keep your cool on court
His serve and volley style was best suited to Wimbledon and he was at his best
during his titanic battles with the ice cool Bjorn Borg.
Revenge is sweet for Mac in 1981
The pair met in the finals of 1980 and 1981 producing some spellbinding tennis.
Borg's win in 1980 was one of the best matches Centre Court has ever seen.
In all 'Supermac' won Wimbledon three times, amazingly appearing in the final
five years in a row.
Do you think McEnroe is a tennis legend?
Tennis still ignites McEnroe's fire as he still gets hot and bothered on the
Seniors Tour.
And no one is safe during his tennis commentary. Whether on court or off it
McEnroe still likes to give it both barrels.
Verdict: His style and desire make him very good. But the shock factor of his
temper tip the balance. An unforgettable champion.
