Ferrero eyes Olympics
Ferrero won four titles last season including the French Open
Spain's Juan Carlos Ferrero has set his sights on claiming the Olympic title in
Athens next year.
The French Open champion has decided to play in the Olympic Games despite the f
act that the US Open takes place less than a week later.
"I think I have the opportunity to win a medal next year," said Ferrero.
"I want to play because in four more years I will be 28 years old."
Australian Lleyton Hewitt has already decided not to compete in the Olympics.
The former world number one decided not to go to Athens because it would interf
ere with his schedule which has been organised around Grand Slams and the Davis
Cup.
Hewitt to miss Olympics
Ferrero will begin his hectic season at the Sydney International tournament whi
ch begins on 12 January.
The world number three had considered skipping the Australian Open to give hims
elf a well-earned rest but Ferrero is determined to keep the momentum going.
"I have to defend a lot of ranking points in Australia," said Ferrero.
"So I have to progress to play at the same level as this year because I played
very well."
