Juan Carlos Ferrero opted to play on despite an electrical problem
Juan Carlos Ferrero groped his way to a laboured 6-3 6-7 (4-7)
6-1 win over Russian-American Alex Bogomolov to reach the quarter-
finals of the Thailand Open on Thursday.
The Spanish world number one held a comfortable lead 6-3 5-4
and was serving for victory when a power surge knocked out
the lights inside the arena.
With no repairs forthcoming, the pair decided to play on.
The decision cost Ferrero a straight-sets win as the underdog
levelled with a winning tie-breaker after a break.
Top Thai Paradorn Srichaphan gained revenge for past Danish
disappointment, rallying past a charged-up Kenneth Carlsen 6-3
7-6 (7-5) to roar into the last eight.
Paradorn was joined in the quarters by third-seeded Spaniard Carlos
Moya, who eased past American Brian Vahaly 7-5 6-4.
In an all-Croatian battle, sixth seed Ivan Ljubicic defeated Mario
Ancic 6-1 6-4.
Ljubicic won the last five games of the first set and broke to lead
5-4 in the second after Ancic failed to convert four game points.
Frenchman Gregory Carraz lined up a clash against top seed Ferrero
with a 7-5 6-2 victory over Alexander Popp of Germany.
And Eighth-seeded American Taylor Dent took just 52 minutes to crush
Thierry Ascione of France 6-1 6-2.
