ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -- Venus Williams withdrew from the WTA Championships on Sunday, citing an abdominal strain that has bothered her since April.

Tenth-ranked Chandra Rubin will replace Williams in the season-ending tournament that begins this week in Los Angeles.

Williams, ranked No. 6, hasn't played since aggravating a stomach muscle injury at Wimbledon.

Serena Williams and Lindsay Davenport both qualified for the Championships but also withdrew because of injuries.
