Dennis van Scheppingen, Melle van Gemerden and Steven Korteling have failed to
reach the main tournament. As a result, only three Dutchmen will participate in
the 32nd ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament this year.
Van Scheppingen was unable to gain the upper hand during his match against
Yeu-Tzuoo Wang from Taipei (China), losing 1-6, 6-2, 3-6. The Dutchman, who
played in Dallas on Wednesday, had only been back in the Netherlands since
Friday afternoon. Although he managed to qualify for last year旧 tournament,
he was less successful on Saturday, attributing his loss to 践etlag. I felt
it the moment I walked on court. It旧 like playing in the middle of the night.
Still, it all part of the game. Unfortunately several of my vertebrae were
slightly dislocated, so I required some treatment yesterday evening.?
Van Scheppingen, who is coached by Dick Suyk, left to play the Delray Beach
ATP tournament two weeks ago. Unfortunately he lost to Peter Wessels in the
first round. Having just missed the cut in San Jose, he subsequently travelled
to Dallas to participate in a Challenger tournament. 戦t would have been a
shame to fly all the way to the US for a single tournament. I nearly made it
to the first round in Memphis last week. Rotterdam is different - it
took me a while to get used to the surface and light conditions.
Unfortunately the jetlag affected me quite badly.
Olivier Rochus, who ranks 42nd in the world, was on better form and managed
to reach the main tournament. The diminutive Belgian had his work cut out for
him against Daniel Gimeno-Traver and Bjorn Phau respectively. 荘hey虐e good
players? said Rochus, who plays Feliciano Lopez (8) next. 斉oth matches were
tough, but I played well. I feel confident about my game at the moment and my
performance in Australia has given me a real boost.
Rochus played exceptionally well at Roland Garros last year, winning the
doubles title with fellow countryman Xavier Malisse. 巣e don急 actually
compare diaries at the beginning of the season. We focus on the singles.
Although Malisse and I would like to play in as many Grand Slam and Masters
Tournaments as possible, playing doubles as well as singles can be very
demanding. I hope that we歓l soon have an ATP tournament in Belgium. As a
matter of fact, if all goes well, Belgium should have its own ATP tournament
by October next year.
Olivier Rochus, Bohdan Ulihrach, Stanislas Wawrinka and Yeu-Tzuoo Wang are
through to the main tournament.

No one can tell me
why I'm breathing
Confusing everything
Life is boring
What's real to me???
