Federer's not-so-sweet music
Wimbledon champion Roger Federer seems to be making a habit of getting
some unusual homecoming presents.
Twelve months ago, Federer was presented with a cow - named Juliette -
by Swiss Open organisers for winning his first Wimbledon title.
After his win over Andy Roddick on Centre Court last Sunday, it had been
thought that the Swiss player might receive a companion for Juliette.
But instead, organisers presented Federer with something that might
keep Juliette in check - an alphorn.
Federer was given the long, trumpet-like instrument which is
traditionally used to herd livestock, before his first round match
in Gstaad on Tuesday.
But the large instrument presents the 22-year-old with an interesting
dilemma - and not just how to play it.
"I don't know if I can take the alphorn on the plane," he admitted.
"It's quite long. It would take me about 10 rows in economy to put
that thing somewhere!
"I'll probably leave it at home. Once I get a big enough place I'll
put it against the wall and it will remind me of the good times."
He managed to get a note out of the alphorn after watching two experts
play but then struggled to repeat the feat.
"Under pressure I was strong when the people were listening so that
was important," he confessed.
