Tennnis-Clijsters and Hewitt split up

BRUSSELS, Oct 22 (Reuters) - Belgium's Kim Clijsters's romance with Australian
Lleyton Hewitt is over and they will not be getting married in February as plan
ned, she said on Friday.
"Kim Clijsters and Lleyton Hewitt have jointly decided to put an end to their r
elationship for private reasons," Clijsters said on her official website (www.k
imclijsters.be).
Clijsters said she and Hewitt did not wish to elaborate on the reason for their
split.
"Furthermore, both of us distance ourselves from the malicious gossip which ine
vitably surfaces in this kind of situation," Clijsters added.
The two tennis players are former world number ones.
