Henman plans Madrid return
Tim Henman is hopeful of being fit for the Madrid Masters.
The 30-year-old is in light training following back and shoulder problems and
plans to return at the next Masters Series event on 18 October.
"The rest has done me the power of good and I'm hopeful of hitting some balls
soon - perhaps at the weekend," he said on his official website.
Henman is sixth in the race to secure one of eight places at the elite end-of-
season Masters Cup in Houston.
Roger Federer, Andy Roddick, Lleyton Hewitt and Gaston Gaudio have already
qualified for the tournament.
Marat Safin, who lies eighth in the Champions Race, and ninth-placed Andre
Agassi are among those hoping to overtake Henman.
After the Madrid Masters, Henman will take part in the Swiss Indoors in Basle
before heading to Paris to defend the Masters title he collected in 2003.
Henman said: "Traditionally, it's always a bit frantic at this time of the
year for the players that have a chance of qualifying for Houston, and it's
nice to be in that position.
"It would be even nicer if I could qualify sooner rather than later so I
could enjoy the next few weeks a bit more.
"There are so many points up for grabs in both Madrid and Paris that there
are still quite a few permutations.
"But I'm going to concentrate on my own game as I have done throughout the
year and hopefully that will get the job done."
