Navratilova to play singles at Bausch & Lomb

AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. (AP) -- Martina Navratilova will play singles at age 47 at the Bausch & Lomb championship next week, the first time she has played a tournament-sponsored singles match in the United States since 1994.

She will accept a wild-card invitation to the event that starts Monday, tournament officials said Thursday. Her last singles match in a U.S. tournament was the Virginia Slims championship, which she lost to Gabriela Sabatini.

Navratilova is competing in the Nasdaq-100 Open in Key Biscayne with doubles partner Lisa Raymond. They were to face Svetlana Kuznetsova and Elena Likhovtseva in Friday's semifinals.

Navratilova became the oldest woman to play in a WTA-sanctioned event when she competed at Eastbourne in 2002 at 45 years, 8 months. She turns 48 in October.

The No. 1 player in the world seven times, Navratilova holds 167 singles titles, more than any man or woman. She has won 18 Grand Slam singles titles and 37 Grand Slam doubles titles.

Navratilova won the Bausch & Lomb singles title in 1980, 1984 and 1988.

場。WTA周五證實，將於下周開拍的博士倫錦標賽已向Navratilova發送外卡。

  Navratilova首度作為職業選手參加單打賽事還是在1973年，而最近一次參加女單
比賽是在1994年11月的WTA錦標賽上。她於2000年復出後專攻雙打，此後八次奪得女
雙冠軍，還兩度摘得大滿貫賽事混雙桂冠。

  Navratilova生涯總共167次獲得單打冠軍，是世界網壇的最高紀錄。她的生涯1440
場單打比賽勝利也創下女子網壇最多勝場紀錄。Navratilova曾排名世界第一長達331
周，在女子網壇僅次於Steffi Graf。
