在以6-3 6-1淘汰了8號種子佩特洛娃之後，16號種子馬丁內茲也為自己的32歲生
日送上了一份厚禮。
“這是一個再好不過的生日禮物。”馬丁內茲說，她由於小威的退出而直接進入
了八強。
馬丁內茲曾贏得過1994和1995年的家庭圈杯，是本次比賽僅存的前冠軍球員。
“塞琳娜昨天宣布退出讓我很吃驚，我知道我有了一個很好的機會，並且我用上
了。”馬丁內茲說。
而她的對手佩特洛娃曾在之前的邁阿密和阿米麗亞島都進入了半決賽，但在與馬
丁內茲的比賽中，她卻出現了39個非受迫性失誤，她賽後說她實在太累了。
“我在過去的三周裡打了太多的比賽，我感覺身體上和心理上都已經很累了，你
可以看到我有那麼多失誤，而且我的表情也很痛苦，我根本發揮不出應有的能量。”

he set with a series of fluent groundstrokes.
Martinez broke early in the second set as Petrova's coach Glen Schaap, looked o
n in disbelief as his pupil's unforced error count and temper rose.
The 21-year-old survived four match points at 1-5, but Martinez finished in sty
le minutes later with a forehand crosscourt winner.
The Wimbledon champion of 1994 will face either Lindsay Davenport or Patty Schy
nder in Saturday's semi-final.
