Serena, Mauresmo withdraw from Open Gaz de France

PARIS (Ticker) - Serena Williams on Friday pulled out of the field for next week's Open Gaz de France.
Williams will not be back to defend her title, delaying her return after undergoing season-ending left knee surgery on August 1. The former world No. 1 has not played since winning Wimbledon in July.
Amelie Mauresmo of France also withdrew on Friday, citing a back injury sustained at the Australian Open. She tore an intercostal muscle in the fourth round and had to default her quarterfinal match against Colombian Fabiola Zuluaga.
