Navratilova uncertain about playing Wimbledon

EASTBOURNE, England (AP) -- Martina Navratilova doesn't know whether she will p
lay singles at Wimbledon later this month.
Navratilova was given a wild card for the event last week, raising the prospect
of her first appearance in the singles competition since losing in the 1994 fi
nal. But after failing to qualify for the Eastbourne tournament, Navratilova qu
estioned whether she would accept the spot.
``I need to decide whether I'll take that wild card or not. I've asked for it b
ut I'll have to see,'' the 47-year-old said Sunday after losing 6-4 6-2 to Russ
ia's Elena Likhovtseva in the second round of qualifying.
``I've had a bum knee and then my ankle gave out on me in the middle of the gam
e against Likhovtseva. It just got jammed and the trainer fixed it but I have t
o loosen these bones.
``The body is not working as well as it used to,'' she added.
Navratilova won her first-round qualifying match against Italy's Mara Santangel
o 6-4, 6-3 on Saturday.
She played singles at the French Open last month, losing a first-round match to
Argentina's Gisela Dulko 6-1, 6-3.
Navratilova made her debut at the All England Club 31 years ago, winning a reco
rd nine singles titles.
