Haas out of Doha, in doubt for Aus Open

German Tommy Haas may be forced to withdraw from the Australian Open, further
delaying his comeback from injury.

With the year旧 first Grand Slam tournament to get underway at Melbourne Park
on January 19, Haas told L壱quipe he is a doubtful starter, having been forced
to pull out of next week旧 season-opener in Doha as he recovers from a shoulder
injury.

"Doha has come too soon," Haas said. "I don't want merely to take part in
tournaments but to win matches and for that I still need training sessions that
are similar to matches. The chances of me playing at the Australian Open are
50-50."

A semi-finalist at the Australian Open in 2002, Haas has not played since
October of that year because of his shoulder problems, and has undergone two
operations to try and correct the damage.
