Ferrero unlikely to play Davis Cup first round Fri 30 January, 2004 12:28 MELBOURNE, Jan 30 (Reuters) - Juan Carlos Ferrero said he is unlikely to play in Spain's Davis Cup first round tie against the Czech Republic next week after picking up a string of injuries during the Australian Open. Ferrero blamed various leg, groin, back and elbow injuries for he 6-4 6-1 6-4 defeat by Swiss Roger Federer in the Australian Open semi-finals on Friday and feels he now needs to take a rest to get his fitness back. Asked if he likely to compete in the February 6-8 tie in Brno, the French Open champion said: "I don't think so. "I think I will be worse if I do so much. It is too soon to be 100 percent (fit by next) Friday. "So my coach and me, we are thinking that it's better to take some rest." Ferrero lost both of his singles matches in Australia's 3-2 win over Spain in the Davis Cup final in Melbourne last November. On Tuesday, Spain named 17-year-old Rafael Nadal along with Ferrero, Carlos Moya and Tommy Robredo in their team to play the Czech Republic. Albert Costa and Feliciano Lopez were put on stand-by in case Ferrero or Moya were forced to pull out. Moya had to withdraw before the start of the Australian Open because of an ankle injury. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 203.122.85.19
