Damages boost for Rusedski
By Caroline Cheese
A leading lawyer has told BBC Sport that Greg Rusedski has a strong case should
he decide to sue the ATP.
The solicitor who represented athlete Diane Modahl after her drugs ban was over
turned said men's tennis' governing body had made a "catastrophic blunder".
"The ATP failed to make it clear to Rusedski that substances it was handing out
were potentially contaminated," said Tony Morton-Hooper.
"That seems to be a very serious breach of its duty of care."
On his return to London on Thursday, Rusedski said he had not yet considered wh
ether to seek damages from the ATP.
He hasn't ruled it in, but nor has he ruled it out
Rusedski ponders next move
Rusedski was cleared when a tribunal concluded that an ATP trainer may have acc
identally given him a supplement contaminated with nandrolone.
"The tribunal's verdict is a very big encouragement to Rusedski," said Morton-H
ooper.
"It is unequivocal in its criticism of the ATP which has made, on the evidence
of this decision, the most catastrophic and inexcusable blunder."

Rusedski was the eighth player in the last year to be cleared of a doping offen
ce, following the cases of Bohdan Ulihrach and six other unnamed players in 200
3.
Ulihrach, who served nine months of a ban before being exonerated, threatened t
o sue the ATP.
The governing body is thought to have agreed a financial settlement with the Cz
ech player.
