In a battle between two of America's rising stars, James Blake eventually
prevailed against Taylor Dent to reach the quarterfinals of the Pacific Life
Open for the second consecutive year. The 24-year-old Blake came through 7-6(4)
, 4-6, 6-1 in 2 hours, 2 minutes to earn a meeting with Georgia's Irakli
Labadze, who came from a set down to defeat Agustin Calleri 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Elsewhere in fourth round action, former Indian Wells finalist Tim Henman
cruised through to the last eight with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Australian
Wayne Arthurs. Andy Roddick fired 17 aces and cracked 33 winners in his
6-3, 6-2 win over Nicolas Escude. Roddick next meets Henman.
