Chicken Pox Force Ferrero Out Of Miami By Tennis Week 03/22/2004 Juan Carlos Ferrero has withdrawn from this week's Nasdaq-100 Open, suffering from a case of the chicken pox that forced him to pull out of the Pacific Life Open 10 days ago. Spain's Felix Mantilla, ranked No. 38, and 42nd-ranked Italian Filippo Volandri, also pulled out of the the tournament, which begins on Wednesday. Qualifying play is underway today at Crandon Park on Key Biscayne, Florida. An Australian Open semifinalist, Ferrero fell to Lleyton Hewitt in the Rotterdam final. He has not played since an opening-round setback to Gregory Carraz at the Marseille event in February. The U.S. Open finalist is a capable hard-court player, but Ferrero has never surpassed the fourth round at the Nasdaq. The absence of the second-ranked Spaniard means Andy Roddick assumes the second seed at this week's Nasdaq-100 Open and could only meet top-ranked Roger Federer in the final. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 203.219.101.22
