Sharapova withdraws from Advanta Championships

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Maria Sharapova withdrew from her semifinal at the Advanta
 Championships on Saturday with a strained right shoulder.

The Wimbledon champion was scheduled to play top-seeded Amelie Mauresmo.

``I'm very disappointed I am not able to continue my play in Philadelphia,'' Sh
arapova said. ``I was having a really good tournament and I'm sure it will stil
l be an exciting final weekend.''

Sharapova hurt her shoulder two weeks ago at the Swisscom Challenge in Zurich.
She aggravated the injury her quarterfinal Friday night against Alicia Molik.

Mauresmo, the defending champion, will play Vera Zvonareva or Nadia Petrova in
the final.
