Scud downs Chang in LA By Greg Heakes August 1, 2003 WIMBLEDON runner-up Mark Philippoussis continued his impressive start to the hardcourt season to send Michael Chang packing from the Los Angeles ATP tour event in straight sets today. The fifth-seeded Philippoussis won 6-2, 6-4 to join fellow Australian Lleyton Hewitt in the quarter-finals, where he'll face three-time French Open champion Gustavo Kuerten. Hewitt will take on Denmark's Kenneth Carlsen on the opposite side of the draw. Philippoussis needed just 30 minutes to win the first set then jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the second before the 16-year tour veteran Chang fought back to tie it at 3-3. "I was a little frustrated at 3-3 but I wasn't too worried because I knew I was still up by a set," Philippoussis said. "I felt confident on his service games. I knew I could always find a way to return his serve." Meanwhile, world No.1 Andre Agassi has announced he will not compete at the Athens Olympics next year. He also admitted he had no idea whether the baby his pregnant wife Steffi Graf is carrying will be a boy or a girl. The Associated Press -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.csie.ntu.edu.tw) ◆ From: 218.167.199.41
