因為去年年終賽的積分將依照慣例提前在下週Entry Ranking扣掉,所以在Ferrero提前在
TMS Paris出局的情況下,Roddick成為ATP第22位球王.

Roddick Claims Race Lead &
World No. 1 Ranking


Andy Roddick became the sixth American, and youngest since John McEnroe, to hold the No. 1 ranking in the history of the ATP Rankings (since 1973). On Thursday, Roddick took over the World No. 1 position by reaching the quarterfinals at the Masters Series event in Paris while current No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero lost in the third round.

Roddick, who also regained the lead in the ATP Champions Race over Ferrero, looks to improve his lead over Ferrero and No. 3 Roger Federer heading into the Tennis Masters Cup in Houston, Nov. 8-16. Roddick has won a career-high six titles this season, including his first Grand Slam at the US Open last month along with Tennis Masters titles in Montreal and Cincinnati. Roddick is the fourth-youngest player to rank No. 1.

The 21-year-old Roddick is the 22nd player in the history of the ATP Rankings to hold No. 1 for the first time. He will officially take over No. 1 on Monday when the next rankings are released.

Roddick is the fourth different player (Lleyton Hewitt, Andre Agassi, Ferrero) to hold No. 1 in the ATP Entry Ranking this season.
