You just need to have great email/IM/phone/skype communications with people
who post ads, so both sides can feel safe about renting/leasing. Be sure to
ask about leasing forms, house rules, and application fee/deposit regulations.
A studio in Hyde Park (just north campus in a quiet historical area) should
cost around or under $500-600/month. If you're concerned about the quality
of living, you should avoid West Campus where you'll hear all kinds of noises
at night. If you prefer to be in a neighborhood where you can enjoy biking or
walking at night, I'll recommend Hyde Park, Far West, North Central, or south
of downtown. Housing in downtown and its adjacent areas is not that affordable.
