The Corrs Eye U.S. Success http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/ws/20000915/en/the_corrs_eye_u_s_success_3.html Friday September 15 07:48 PM EDT By Gary Graff Irish sibling quartet the Corrs are superstars around the world. They've sold 15 million albums, scooped up a slew of awards, scored a series of hit singles, and even curried the favor of the Rolling Stones, who took them on tour as an opening act during 1997-98. Then there's the United States, which is not immune to the Corrs' charms, but it certainly hasn't embraced the group in the same manner as the rest of the planet. But that's something Andrea, Caroline, Sharon, and Jim hope to change with the release of their much ballyhooed new album, In Blue, which has already hit No. 1 in 17 other countries. "It's funny; when we first started into this 10 years ago, we didn't exclude anywhere, like, 'Oh, we don't want to be successful there,'" says Sharon Corr, 30, who sings and plays violin. "We would really, really love to be very successful here [in the U.S.] We don't see any reason why it shouldn't be. Basically, you can only do your best, but it can really just be timing. "When we released our first album, grunge was big in America," she continues. "You can't imagine us fitting into grunge, can you? It's just not going to work. You can do everything you can, but sometimes it just comes down to timing." The Corrs dedicated In Blue to their mother, Jean Corr, who died last November while waiting for a lung transplant. The song "No More Cry" was especially inspired by her passing, but Sharon notes that "any songs written after that point were greatly influenced by that. "It changed our lives overnight and obviously was a very difficult experience. She was our biggest fan and loved everything about it. She was so happy and proud of us. Obviously it was difficult, but you have no choice but to deal with it; this happens to everyone." The Corrs kick off a world tour during November in Europe and plan to hit North America next spring. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.twbbs.org) ◆ From: ntumcc35.mba.ntu.edu.tw
