[典故] 黑人與白人間的友情

  即使是現在，美國仍然有嚴重的種族歧視問題，更何況是美國南北戰爭結束四十周年
的時候？當時，政府為了改善白人黑人間的對立，決定從孩子做起，請人寫了很多關於白
人黑人友誼的童書。其中一則故事是這樣的：

The story of Sandy and Janez
Sandy and Janez were good friends, even though Sandy was white and Janez was
black. But one day they had a terrible fight, Sandy slapped Janez in the face
and yelled:” You negro!” Janez was very angry and ran all the way home.
Janez tell his husband that she will never talk to Sandy again.
Janez was very unhappy. She just sat in the chair all day, not talking to
anyone. Her husband knew that it was because that she missed Sandy very much.
So he said to Janez: “Call Sandy, Janez.” And Janez agreed. She called
Sandy and they finally made up with each other.


故事的翻譯是：
   儘管Sandy是白人，Janez是黑人，他們是一對好朋友。但是有一天，Sandy和Janez大
吵了一架；Sandy賞她耳光並對她大叫: “ You negro!” Janez 非常生氣，一路跑回家
，並告訴丈夫，她再也不要和Sandy說話了。
   Janez非常不開心。她一整天坐在椅子上，不跟任何人說話。她丈夫知道，這是因為
Janez非常想念Sandy的緣故。於是他對Janez說：”Call Sandy, Janez.”  Janez同意了
。她打給了Sandy，兩人總算言歸於好。



   儘管這則故事並不有名，但是故事中的對話 ”You negro!” 和 “Call Sandy,
Janez” 卻somehow 流傳了開來，甚至傳到台灣，不過隨著時間和空間的變化，
"You negro!" 演變成了"妖尼姑"，而 "Call Sandy, Janez." 則成了"口嫌體正直"。
