Class: Junior STRENGTHS: Among the best defenders in college basketball, Brewer is a versatile, terrific athlete that runs like a gazelle, or some other fast animal. You choose. Oh yeah, he's also 6-9 with a big vertical, and long (like Jay Bilas will say 20 times on draft day). A swingman by nature, his ability to play either the NBA 2 or 3 spot is appealing, and his lengthy arms, foot speed and anticipation enable him to play lock-down defense. His J is smooth, and he can knock down the NBA three. Love this kid ... he's straight cash. WEAKNESSES: While he's terrific with the ball in the open floor, Brewer will have to prove that he can beat NBA defenders off the dribble in half-court sets. Defensively, at just 185 pounds, he might struggle to guard some bigger 2s and 3s at the next level when isolated, particularly on the low block. Despite his lights-out shooting from three in the Tourney, he shot just 33.6% for the season and needs to show more consistency. HOW WOULD HE FIT WITH THE WOLVES? Brewer's so versatile that he could play either the 2 or the 3 for Minny and have an immediate positive impact. He'd form a big backcourt with Randy Foye, or he could slide to SF with Ricky Davis at the 2. Kevin McHale has talked about getting bigger at the 3, 4 and 5, and though he isn't a post, Brewer's length does makes your team "bigger." Brewer's presence would also guarantee an immediate boost to Minnesota's transition game and help stretch the floor for Kevin Garnett. With two straight National Championships at Florida, Brewer brings a winning attitude similar to that of Foye, Rashad McCants and Craig Smith. He'll be tough to pass on by teams ahead of the Wolves and is a lottery lock. WHAT ARE OTHERS SAYING ABOUT BREWER? ESPN.com Player Card: “An excellent NCAA tournament this season helped Brewer's stock perhaps more than anyone else. He got hot from the perimeter, answering his critics who said he couldn't shoot. His size, versatility and defense are elite for a player at his position.” GatorZone.com: “Using his long wingspan and quickness at 6-foot-8, he's become a ball hawk for the Gators. He intimidates inbounds passes. He annoys ball handlers outside the three-point line. And when Brewer plays that way, he lets everyone know. He screams. He hops all over the court in agreement." Draft Express: “While at Florida he was most effective as a catch and shoot player or taking advantage of defensive rotations to explode off the dribble going left and finish with a finger roll, Brewer has a lot of work to do on polishing up his half-court game and being a consistent shot-creating threat in the NBA.” NBA.com Player Card: “Length, foot-speed, anticipation and sheer desire make him an exceptional defender. Tough competitor. Excels in the transition game. Has shown improved range on his jumpshot.” Tony Mejia of CBS Sportsline: “He has become a favorite of many in this draft, projected as a can't-miss lockdown defender who already knows what it takes to win championships.” NBADraft.net: “Excellent finisher in transition where his athleticism allows him to finish with ease … Approaches the game with a blue collar attitude and does all the dirty work with a smile on his face.” Rich Zuckerman and Tim Woitkun NBCSports.com: “Long and athletic, Brewer could help push the tempo for the Wolves along with Garnett and Randy Foye. He'd give Minnesota a great defensive frontcourt and could ease the offensive load on KG as well.” Jeff Fox of CollegeHoops.net: “With a little work on his offensive game – most importantly improving the consistency of his outside jumper – and Brewer can be an impact player at both ends of the floor. At the very least he should be a rock solid contributor on the defensive end.” AlligatorSports.org: "Who doesn't need an athletic 6-9 player? If you have five, you want six. It's like candy. You can't get enough of it." -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 59.114.198.144
