: Marcus Banks showed in his Wolves debut that he is the quickest point
: guard the franchise has had in years. Banks, generously listed at 6 feet 2,
: darted and squirted his way to 20 points and six assists, season bests in
: both categories.
: At least on this night, it was hard to tell why he lost his backup
: point-guard role with the Celtics before he was traded to Minnesota.
: "I think the fans, when I got traded, they were like, 'Who is this guy?' "
: Banks said. "But I'm pretty sure the coaching staff knew what they
: were getting."
: He converted a couple of three-point plays and got to the free-throw
: line nine times in 21 minutes.
: With 11:08 left in the game, Banks took off down the court, twirled the
: ball under the basket against a defender and made a layup. Then he made a
: long jump shot with 9:21 remaining to give Minnesota a 90-65 lead.

: "Not just the quickest, but he has explosion also," Garnett said. "I didn't
: know he was this explosive and strong off the ground like he is. He's going

: SuperSonics' object of affection. The third-year pro was picked 13th
: overall in the 2003 NBA draft.

: lot of motivation and emotion, and we were unable to match it."

: The Wolves needed another scorer to complement Garnett (and Szczerbiak
: when he was with Minnesota) all season. Maybe they have found more than
: one option. Six Wolves scored in double figures for the first time since
: Nov. 17 against the Washington Wizards.

: Coach Dwane Casey complimented his players but was careful not to get too
: excited about one game.

: Ricky Davis, the marquee player acquired by the Wolves in the trade, had
: a relatively quiet night with nine points on 4-of-8 shooting with five
: assists and four turnovers after Szczerbiak inadvertently poked him in
: the eye early in the game.

: Szczerbiak, known for his offense but never his defense in Minnesota,
: did a nice job guarding Davis, holding him to three points in the first
: half. Davis scored 26 and 20 points in his first two games with the Wolves.
: Szczerbiak made 6 of 15 shots and all nine free throws. After the game,
: Szczerbiak hugged Garnett and Casey at midcourt.
: "It was a real emotional game," Szczerbiak said. "It's weird to say that
: the T-Wolves played great and not be happy about a win."
