Mike James summarizes the upcoming season cleanly, "This is a new season to
be excited about. If nobody else gets excited, then they don't understand
basketball."
    甫加入明尼蘇達灰狼的偽大帝為即將到來的球季做了一個清楚的總結"這是一個會讓大

It's the middle of summer and the fans are ready for the season. Though the
regular season doesn't start for months - The Timberwolves open versus the
Sacramento Kings on November 1st - the Minnesota Timberwolves fans are
treated to basketball events. On August 7th, the Minnesota Timberwolves
hosted season ticket holders and Timberwolves fans. It gave fans an
opportunity to listen and talk with Kevin McHale, Vice President of
Basketball Operations, and Mike James, the Timberwolves point guard who
joined the team on 12 July, 2006.
    暑假差不多只過了一半而已，但球迷們已經迫不及待要迎接新球季的到來了。儘管例
行賽還有好幾個月才會開始 - 灰狼的開幕賽是11月1號與沙加緬度國王的對戰 - 球迷們仍
相當關心球隊事務。在8月7號，灰狼為已經購買了下一個賽季季票的球迷以及其他死忠粉
斯們舉行了一次見面會，那給了球迷們和籃球事務副總裁McFail及7月12號才與球隊簽約的
偽大帝面對面談話的難得機會。

Before Kevin or Mike said a word, the fans were talking. This was a power
lunch and fans were enjoying roast beef, mashed potatoes, salad, and
perfectly smooth cheesecake while discussing big men, Olowokandi, this year,
and last year. When Tom Hanneman appears, the talk shifts to Kevin Harlan,
then the Lynx, and the $199 season ticket.
    在McFail或偽大帝開口前，球迷們已經自顧自聊開了來。這是一個餐點豐盛的午餐派
對，而球迷們在談論大個子球員，扶不起的糖果，今年和去年的同時也很享受烤牛排、馬
鈴薯泥、沙拉和口感柔順，味道堪稱完美的起司蛋糕，當T.Hanneman(灰狼的電視播報員)

Tom Hanneman introduced Kevin McHale who talked about the following subjects
and answered fan questions:

* The Off-Season
    暑假休兵期間

Kevin McHale signed Mike James because the 'Wolves were looking for a
veteran. James shoots 44% from the three-point line. What's left is to find a
bigger body. The summer league has gone very well for 1st round draft pick
Randy Foye. While in Las Vegas, Foye took league MVP honors. The signing
season started July 12 and now it's August. For many players, "The money's
not there." Player expectations were high and now the players are realizing
it's not there.
    McFail簽下了偽大帝，因為球隊正在尋求一位有經驗的老將的加盟。偽大帝擁有44%的
三分球命中率，而剩下的任務就是再尋找一名體型更大的大個子球員。第一輪選秀R.Foye

* Finding the Big Man
    尋找大個子

To get a big man, McHale is talking about trades. The first fan asked about
a big man, specifically a rebounder. McHale attacks the rebounding problem.
He points to the perimeter problem. If everyone stays attached, and boxes
out, they get the ball. We need to tighten the perimeter, not rebound.
    為了能得到大個子，McFail正在尋求交易的機會。球迷們最希望球隊能爭取到的就是
一個大個子，尤其是一個出色的籃板手。McFail則針對籃板問題提出反擊，他指出球隊缺

* A Losing Season

It's only been two years since the Western Conference Finals. Winning is a
fine line. The year of our run, we won close games. We gained momentum and
confidence. Last year, we had the worst record in close games. We found a way
to lose games.
    自灰狼闖進西區總冠軍賽至今不過兩年，贏球卻成了一件難事。在球隊表現銳不可擋
那個球季，差距不大的球賽我們通常能獲得最後的勝利，我們藉此獲得了繼續向前挺進的
動力和自信。去年，拼鬥激烈的比賽我們是贏少輸多，我們忘了贏得的方法。

That's why we brought in Mike James. He's a big-time shot maker, a fourth
quarter difference maker.
    那就是為什麼我們要尋求偽大帝的加盟，他是一個在關鍵時刻不會軟手，專在第四節
挺身而出的大顆心臟射手。

* Rules Changes
    關於規則改變

The rule: If a team has two 60-second timeouts left in the final 2 minutes
of regulation or in overtime, one will be reduced to a 20-second timeout.
Teams now have two 60-second timeouts and one 20-second timeout in overtime,
instead of three 1-minute timeouts. Clubs will no longer be permitted to
carry over a 20-second timeout from regulation into overtime.
    規則：如果球隊在正規賽或延長賽最後兩分鐘還握有兩個60秒的長暫停，其中一個將
會被縮短為20秒的短暫停。球隊現在在延長賽期間享有兩個60秒長暫停和一個20秒短暫停
的機會，而不像過去有三個60秒的長暫停。如果球隊在正規賽結束時還留有一個20秒的短
暫停未使用，將不能保留至延長賽再使用。

McHale's take: "I like the timeout changes. It's tolerable and will make the
last two minutes of games go quicker."
    McFail的看法："我喜歡這些關於暫停的規定的改變，那是可接受的，而且也會讓球賽

The rule: "The postseason roster is expanded to 15, instead of 13, with 12
players active for each game."

McHale's take: You're playing 8 or 9 players anyway. Red Auerbach used to
talk about the top 4 players and bottom 4 players being happy. The top 4 are
playing. The bottom 4 are young or happy to be in the NBA. It's the middle 4.
I like 12 except for injuries.
    McFail的看法："再怎麼樣其實真正會被派上場的球員還是只有8到9人之多。傳奇教練
紅頭Auerbach曾說過最優秀和板凳席最末端的各4名球員是最高興的。因為最優秀的4個球
員一定有球打，而板凳席最末端那4個球員則通常還很年輕或很高興能打進NBA，心情最忐
忑不安的其實是中間不上不下的那4個。我喜歡可上場球員數12人的規定，因為如果一有球
員受傷就可以立刻由其他人補上。

* Trading KG
    關於交易KG

I'm not sure where trade rumors come from. These days it seems someone can
make something up and it flies.
    我不曉得那些可笑的交易傳言打哪來的，這些天以來似乎有人一直在捏造毫無根據的
謠言，而且還鬧得滿城風雨。

* Losing Close Games
    關於屢次輸掉比分接近的球賽

When asked about being up at half and down after 3, McHale asked his
question, "Why are we good enough to be up by 14? What do we need to do to
sustain it? When you lose close games, it looks and feels really really bad."
    當被問及在中場時還領先卻在第三節結束後落後，McFail問了他的問題"我們憑什麼領
先對手14分？我們需要做什麼以保持比分領先？當你輸掉了差距不大的分數，那感覺實在
相當相當地差。"

We're trying to add players to make one play, to jump on the other side of
the snowball." We have to win our fair share of close games.

* Drafting Roy or Foye

One fan remarked that Brandon Roy was discussed by the experts as a better
player. McHale disagreed. We were were talking Foye the whole time. Portland
wanted Roy. Foye has more juice with the ball. Basically, we took Roy to
trade. Portland had already traded the piece we liked.
    有個球迷指出B.Roy被專家們認為會是一個比Foye還出色的球員，但McFail不同意，我
們從頭到尾雷達之中就只有Foye的存在，而Roy才是令波特蘭拓荒者垂涎三尺的球員。Foye

When asked if it was a defensive issue, the reply was solid. "No. No."
Mike James joined McHale and the guard talked about the following subjects
and answered fan questions:

* On Signing

"Before I signed, KG called me, 'Not only do I want you. I need you in
Minnesota.' He wanted to surround himself with good players. 'Yes, I'm
happy.'"

* On Chemistry

roles, everyone coincides. This is a new season to be excited about. If
nobody else else gets excited, then they don't understand basketball."

* Persevering
    備戰情形

"I take care of my body. Stick to the rules that got you this far. First in
the gym. Last to leave. Work on my game to make basketball easier. This game
is fun! You gotta separate the business. Even though it's a court, it's my
playground."
    "對於體能狀況我很要求而且也遵行自己一路走來的原則。第一個到體育館，最後一個
離開。盡力讓籃球比賽變得簡單一些，球賽可是很有趣的！你必須跳脫那是職業的想法，
儘管那是個球場，但那也是我的遊樂園。"

* On Small Defenders
    關於敵隊那些專門用以對付小個子的防守者

"They're a pain, like a mosquito in your bedroom at night."
    "他們是個麻煩，就像是晚上在你房間飛來飛去的蚊子一樣討厭。"

* About This Year
    關於新球季的看法

"One person can help the chemistry and be the missing piece of the puzzle.
I'm a winner. I'm a winner in my head. I'm a winner in my heart."
    "一個球員就能左右球員間的化學效應好壞，也會是球隊表現好壞的關鍵因素。而我自
認為是個贏家，我腦袋裡這麼想，心裡也是。"

"I have the Ticket. Please stop biting your nails. We have a plan. Look at
the Detroit Tigers. Why can't we be that? Being 5 down, we still believe we
can win. Being up 10, we know we can win."
    "我有信心，不要再緊張地一直咬指甲了。我們已經有了萬全的計畫，看看底特律老虎
，為什麼我們不能和他們一樣呢？落後五分時，我們依然相信球隊能扭轉乾坤。領先十分
時，心中更是篤定一定能獲勝。

* My Game and Keeping Defenders Awake
    我的球賽，讓防守著保持清醒。

"Players who play against me don't go out the night before. They're in bed.
I dictate a tempo. I force you to play hard. You can't take a night off."
    "防守我的球員就像是從未在晚上出門的人，他們都還在睡覺。我的球賽，節奏是由我
制定，我會讓你喘不過氣來。負責防守我，這個晚上你肯定不會好過。"

* Minnesota
    對於明尼蘇達的看法

"I did not come to Minnesota to lose in this cold weather."
    "我並不是為了敗給嚴寒的氣候而來到明尼蘇達的。"
