MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Timberwolves exercised the third-year option on
shooting guard Rashad McCants on Tuesday, a sign the team is confident he
fully will recover from serious knee surgery performed in the offseason.

McCants, Minnesota's first-round pick out of North Carolina last season, had
microfracture surgery on his right knee in June. It's the same procedure that
kept Phoenix star Amare Stoudemire out for essentially all of last season.

McCants averaged 7.9 points and 1.8 rebounds in his first season, but
blossomed down the stretch when coach Dwane Casey increased his minutes.

"Rashad demonstrated late last season that he has the ability to score at

"We believe he will fully recover from his injury and become a valuable
member of the Timberwolves for years to come."

The Timberwolves don't expect him back for at least the first two months of
this season while they take a cautious approach to his recovery.
