The Timberwolves are in the stretch run of predraft evaluations and workouts
with draft prospects.
Highly touted Connecticut forward Rudy Gay and Washington guard Brandon Roy
will highlight sessions in front of team officials Sunday. Memphis forward
Shawne Williams also will go through the paces.
On Thursday, the Wolves worked out Villanova guard Randy Foye, Memphis
swingman Rodney Carney, Arkansas guard Ronnie Brewer and Washington forward
Bobby Jones.
Bradley center Patrick O'Bryant, a former standout at Blaine High School,
is scheduled to work out today along with Notre Dame forward Torin Francis
and some foreign prospects.
"These are really the guys we're going to consider with our top pick,
this group and our group on Sunday," said Fred Hoiberg, who has been
organizing the workouts.
The 6-foot-4 Foye, who led Villanova to an NCAA regional final at the
Metrodome in March, drew praise for his ability to defend taller players.
Redick cancels workout: Duke guard J.J. Redick was scheduled to work out
Thursday, but he canceled because of a back injury, Wolves coach Dwane Casey
said. Redick was arrested early Tuesday and charged with driving while
intoxicated in Durham, N.C. He reportedly canceled workouts with other
teams as well because of the back injury. It remains to be seen whether
Redick's stock will drop in the June 28 NBA draft.
"I don't think that's going to hurt him," Casey said of Redick's arrest.
"From what I know, he's a good kid."
Davis in limbo: Assistant coach Johnny Davis could be leaving the Wolves
soon, maybe after the draft. Casey said he didn't know whether Davis is
on the way out. Davis was replaced as the lead assistant when the Wolves
recently rehired Randy Wittman.
"Johnny is still a part of our staff until he leaves," Casey said.
