INDIANAPOLIS - The Timberwolves, a team looking to ratchet up its defense,
lost one of their best defensive players before even heading to Conseco
Fieldhouse on Saturday night.

Trenton Hassell was knocked from the lineup by a bout of stomach flu that hit
him while at the team hotel Saturday morning. He was unable to accompany the
team to play against the Pacers.

"He wasn't feeling very well," said Wolves coach Dwane Casey. "He was pretty

start of this season in replacing Hassell. Casey said he chose Reed for a
couple of reasons.

Casey took advantage of the trip here to catch up with his family.

Born in Indianapolis, Casey and his family moved to Kentucky, where he was
raised. After he had left home, his family returned to Indianapolis.

But his two brothers, two sisters and their children live here, so Casey
spent Saturday afternoon with them.

A total of 12 family members were at Conseco for the game Saturday night.
It has been a difficult year for Casey, who lost both his parents. It only
makes him more aware of the importance of family.

"During Christmas time, it's tough," he said. "Just because of the fact that

with his family, including his grandmother, who lives in a local rest home.
