Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor has a new vantage point for games this season.
He sits just a few courtside seats down from coach Dwane Casey.
The view allows Taylor to better understand what's going on. He can hear the
plays called. He can even suggest something to Casey or the coaches, though
he never does.
"I wouldn't," Taylor said Friday with a laugh. "That would be so upsetting."
Taylor sat in on Casey's pregame meeting with reporters when he stopped by
the locker room at Target Center before the Wolves' game against Milwaukee.
Taylor said he doesn't tell Casey how to run the team or which players should
be on the court; rather, he tries to be supportive.
"I try to be a positive person," Taylor said. "I encourage him, let's go
fellas. The Lakers game (Wednesday night, a 111-94 loss), I didn't like it.
You didn't like it. Nobody liked it. Let's win tonight."
Taylor's seat means he can see what Casey sees, including the good, the bad
and the ugly.
"I do know some of the plays," Taylor said. "When they call them, that's a
little bit extra enjoyment now that I know what we should run. If I see
frustration on (Casey's) face that we didn't run it, I probably have the same
frustration."
Casey joked that he tries to be careful not to block his boss' view during
games.
"Sometimes he stands right in front of me when they're shooting down at that
basket," Taylor said. "He has turned around and said excuse me. But I'm not
going to say anything."
Quipped Casey: "I have to watch my cuss words."
K.G. not surprised: Kevin Garnett said he wasn't surprised when the news
broke Dec. 9 that Allen Iverson had asked the Philadelphia 76ers for a trade.
"When he came out and made the comments, they weren't really news to me,"
Garnett said. "It was pretty much news to the world. … When it came out, it
was just all about getting it done (competitively in Philadelphia), and
obviously that wasn't the case."
Garnett said he and Iverson have maintained a connection, which fueled a
desire to become teammates at some point.
"We've always spoke about how we've always wanted to play (together),"
Garnett said. "It's no different from Chauncey (Billups, Detroit guard) and
myself speaking on playing again with each other. … We all understand the
reality of it and how the salary cap works, the exclusiveness of players and
all that stuff, him being loyal to Philly and vice versa here with myself."
Garnett isn't concerning himself with that now that Iverson is a Denver
Nugget.
"It's time to move on, man," Garnett said. "Like I said, I've learned not to
put too much hope into situations, especially when it comes to management
getting things done."
Patterson out: Milwaukee's Ruben Patterson did not make the trip to the Twin
Cities from Milwaukee because of a stomach virus. Patterson, who is averaging
13 points and 4.8 rebounds a game, remained in Milwaukee, and the team hopes
he will be available to play tonight at home against New Jersey.
Patterson is the latest significant opposing player to miss a game against
the Wolves, who have struggled to capitalize in those situations. The Lakers
were without Lamar Odom on Wednesday night.
"We've had that scenario so many times this year," Casey said before the
game. "We still have to come prepared."
