Convinced that Tyreke Evans is their "good-luck charm," the Kings chose the
Rookie of the Year candidate to represent them at the NBA draft lottery on
May 18 in Secaucus, N.J.
Evans was drafted fourth overall by the Kings in 2009 after Blake Griffin,
Hasheem Thabeet and James Harden were taken.
The lottery determines the drafting order for the 14 teams that didn't make
the playoffs. Because the Kings own the league's third-worst record (25-57),
just ahead of the Golden State Warriors, they have the best chance of keeping
the No. 3 pick and are guaranteed a top-six choice.
Based on probabilities – the pingpong ball system is weighted to favor the
teams with the worst records – the Kings have a 15.6 percent chance of
winning the lottery and the chance to draft likely No. 1 pick John Wall of
Kentucky.
Drawings held Friday at NBA headquarters in New York broke ties among six
teams, with the Warriors finishing just behind the Kings.
