Davenport pulls out of China Open with injury

BEIJING (AP) -- Lindsay Davenport, coming off a title in Bali, pulled out of
the China Open because of a strained lower back.
The WTA said it was informed of the withdrawal Sunday night.
The tournament features Maria Sharapova and Venus and Serena Williams, all with
first-round byes. On Monday, Ai Sugiyama defeated Akiko Morigami 7-6 (3), 6-4
in an all-Japanese match.
Davenport, ranked No. 2, won the Wismilak International in Indonesia on Sunday,
defeating Francesca Schiavone 6-2, 6-4.
