Jennifer Capriati undergoes shoulder surgery
January 28, 2005
WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (TICKER) -- It may be some time before we see Jennifer Cap
riati playing competitive tennis again.
Capriati underwent successful arthroscopic surgery Friday to repair a torn labr
um in her right shoulder. No timetable was given for the 28-year-old American's
return to the WTA Tour.
The injury caused her to miss this year's Australian Open, a tournament she won
in 2001 and 2002. She will have complete rest for five to seven days before sh
e can start exercising her shoulder.
"I expect a complete recovery after rehabilitation," Dr. Craig Morgan said. "On
ce rehabilitation is through, Jennifer can resume a full competitive schedule."
A 14-time winner on the WTA Tour, Capriati's last victory came at the 2003 Pilo
t Pen Tournament in New Haven, Connecticut. Her only other major singles title
came at the 2001 French Open.
