The United States (and the great state of Texas) gained another resident on
Wednesday as 2007 Wimbledon ladies' doubles co-champion Liezel Huber was sworn
in as a citizen of the USA.
Huber, who has resided in the United States since 2004, received her
citizenship at a naturalization ceremony in Cypress.
Although Huber still considers herself a South-African at heart, she was eager
to become an official citizen in her adopted homeland, especially since her h
usband Tony is an American.
What are Liezel's goals for the near future? Competing in her first Grand Slam
under the Star-Spangled banner, with a dream of playing doubles for Team USA
next year in Beijing.
"It’s amazing,” said Huber according to Houston reporter Deborah Wrigley.
"I'll be playing in the US Open as an American. So, that's a dream come true.”
