Utah Jazz tender qualifying offer to Millsap

The Jazz, as expected, tendered a qualifying offer today to soon-to-be
restricted free agent Paul Millsap.

The move allows the Jazz to retain its right to match, or refuse to match,
whatever offer sheet Millsap may sign with another team.

Millsap, the Jazz's backup power forward enters the NBA's summer shopping
market when it opens at 10 p.m.

The Jazz have vowed to match any offer sheet Millsap may sign, even if it
makes them an NBA luxury-tax payer next season.

Millsap, a second-round draft choice in 2006, averaged 13.5 points and 8.6
rebounds last season. He also had a stretch last season with 19 straight
double-doubles.

The qualifying offer, essentially a formality procedure in this instance,
likely is for one year and $1.03. million. Millsap, who made $791,581 last
season, stands to make much more with his next contract.
