Utah Jazz: Adelman, Sloan go way back
教頭恩仇錄

HOUSTON - They played together only one full season in Chicago in the 1970s,
yet have remained friends to this day, so much so that Jazz coach Jerry Sloan
once invited an out-of-work Rick Adelman to attend training camp in October
1994.
雖然只在七零年代的芝加哥共同奮戰了一個球季，
這兩個人的友誼卻未曾變質。他們交情有多好呢？

還曾經致電邀請他來訓練營散散心呢！
With Adelman having been fired by Portland after the previous season, Sloan
considered it nothing more than the right thing to do. Adelman made the trip
to St. George and said Saturday he appreciated the gesture to this day.
那時的愛得慢剛從拓荒者打包閃人，
史龍心想可不能讓這傢伙無所事事，
後來愛得慢果真答應了史龍的邀約，
而這份恩情也讓他感念至今。
"Sometimes when you're let go at a certain place, people forget about you,"
Adelman said. "I've known Jerry and Phil [Johnson] a long, long time. They
called me and they knew I wasn't doing anything and they said, 'Do you want
to just come to camp for a few days?'
「人情冷暖，有幾個人會在你離開後還惦記著你咧？」
「龍龍、飛耳強身...我們這幾個算是老相好啦，」
「他們怕我在家裡頭悶著，乾脆就摳我去玩個幾天啦！」
愛得慢回憶道。
"I think it was great because they're not threatened or anything. I went and
I watched what they did for about three or four days and talked to the
coaches and everything else, and I really enjoyed it because it gave you a
different perspective on how other people do it."
「他們也沒有逼我非去不可什麼的，但去了就知道很值得，」
「我在那待了三四天，跟教練團說說話兒，順便看看他們在搞些什麼，」
「換個角度來看當教練這檔事兒還挺有趣的，呵呵。」
Now Sloan and Adelman find themselves facing each other in the playoffs for
the sixth time in their coaching careers. Adelman owns a 4-1 advantage, with
Sloan's lone victory coming in the 1999 first round, when the Jazz beat
Sacramento 3-2.
這次是史龍與愛得慢教練生涯中第六度在季後賽碰頭，
不過這六次的結果愛得慢以四勝一敗遙遙領先，
史龍唯一贏的那次是1999年第一輪，爵士擊敗國王。
Their friendship is bound to endure regardless. Adelman said that while Sloan
has a "real gruff nature about him to everybody else," he was the person who
took him to garage sales to buy furniture and dishes after he was traded to
the Bulls before the 1973-74 season.
然而這件事並不曾傷害到他們倆的友誼。
愛得慢在提到史龍的時候這麼說：
「雖然大家都會說龍龍是驢子脾氣啊什麼的，」
「不過讓他出水的那個可不是偶...啊錯了啦，」
「我是要說我被交易到芝加哥的那一年，」

Before this series, Sloan made mention of their days as teammates to his Jazz
players. He told them to expect the Rockets to rebound, defend and get after
them the same way Adelman did when he played.
在這個季後賽系列開始之前，
史龍也跟球員講了些兩人是隊友時的往事，
同時告誡他們，愛得慢的子弟兵將會跟他當年打球一樣拼。
Between them, Sloan and Adelman have won 1,896 games, although with different
styles. As prone to outbursts as Sloan is, Adelman was described by one of
his players as the calmest person he'd ever known.
這兩個老頭在聯盟裡加起來已經贏了1896場比賽，
不過相較於一向是火爆浪子的史龍，
風格迥異的愛得慢則曾被球員形容是無比冷靜之人。
"He gets guys to play hard," Sloan said. "I don't care who they are. That's a
real knack in this business and he does it very quietly."
「他的傢伙好硬哪，」史龍這麼說，
「不管把誰交到他手上，他總是能調教成那副模樣，」
「這也算是一種長才吧，而且他是惦惦吃三碗公的那種。」

After joking at the pregame shootaround that he was feeling "127.25 percent"
as far as his bruised backside, Deron Williams played a team-high 43:47
against Houston, finishing with 20 points and 10 assists.
在賽前練球時開玩笑說自己屁股已經127.25%復原的低位兒，
在對休士頓的第一場比賽上場了全隊最久的近44分鐘，
而且還有20分10助攻的表現。
"It's still definitely sore," Williams said, "but I think as the game went on
and it warmed up, I was a lot better, a lot more comfortable out there. Just
a couple times, when I cut or something, I could feel it. I'm not going to
let it stop me."
「人肉坦克也是人哪，怎麼會不痛，」他說，
「不過只要在場上把身子暖開，那些痛都不算啥啦～」
「只有幾次切入的時候會有一點點感覺，」
「但這種程度就想叫我停喔？門兒都沒有！！！」
