Utah Jazz: Final play revisited

As soon as he saw Houston forward Carl Landry lunging to block his shot in
the final seconds of Thursday's game, Deron Williams guessed that Carlos
Boozer was open somewhere under the basket.

Trouble was, Williams had planted to go up for the runner off his left foot,
making a pass to Boozer improbable in that split second.

would have been a turnover, so I tried to shoot it and Landry made a good

Landry's block with 3.4 seconds left preserved the Rockets' victory. Boozer
was alone for a dunk, but Jazz coach Jerry Sloan didn't blame Williams for
trying to make something happen on the final possession.

"That's obviously a tough play," Sloan said, "but I don't fault the players

Boozer said he thought time was close to expiring and that Williams had a
clean look on the shot. He didn't realize he was open until he was told by
teammates afterward. "If he could have gotten it to me, he would have gotten
it to me," Boozer said.

After going 3-for-8 from the foul line in Thursday's loss, including two key
misses with 5:09 remaining, Boozer showed up to the Jazz practice facility at
9:30 a.m. and shot free throws for close to an hour.
在上場敗戰中罰八中三，而且最後五分鐘關鍵兩罰盡墨的阿布，
隔天一大早便現身球場並進行了快一個鐘頭的罰球練習。
"I don't sleep well when I don't play well," Boozer said, reporting that he
hit 83 of 100 from the line. He was a 73.8 percent free throw shooter in the
regular season.

Rafer madness

Houston's Tracy McGrady couldn't say enough good things about the return of
starting point guard Rafer Alston, who missed the series' first two games
with a hamstring injury. Alston finished with 20 points and hit four
three-pointers Thursday.
"Rafer has that New York swagger, that streetball mentality and that
streetball attitude," McGrady said. "In any building, in any given situation,
he's really confident. He's always going to believe in himself and his team,
which is going to get his team riled up.
"But having him back, I couldn't even tell you how I felt with him out there
because you get a chance to play off the ball. I don't have to initiate the
offense, and it's tough when you've got to initiate the offense. It's easy
for the defense to really key in on you."
All smiles
The trip to the dentist won't be fun, but Landry earned McGrady's respect for
blocking Williams in the final seconds after losing a tooth in the first half
courtesy of a Boozer arm to the mouth.
"The guy looked like a hockey player out there," McGrady said. "It just shows
you how tough he really is, because he's out there with a missing tooth and
he came back in, which was a big factor in why we won the ball game."
