John Stockton was in the house, seated in the stands with a few of his kids,
for the Jazz's playoff game Thursday night.

老史安坐館中，緊擁著多少癡爵企圖染指的愛女，

The way a certain power forward played, you would've thought the
Hall-of-Famer's sidekick was on the EnergySolutions Arena court at the same
time, too.

場上殺進殺出的那個萬人敵，

彷彿時光又回到那曾經郵務使命必達的年代。

Different jersey number and era. Similar game on this night.

哲人日已遠，甚至還成了銅像，只是比賽激情仍舊。

Doing a pretty impressive Mailman impersonation and hours after saying he and
his team needed to "play like there's no tomorrow," Carlos Boozer delivered a
huge outing for the Jazz.

在做出『我們沒有退路』悲壯宣言後的幾個小時，

He picked a fine time to do it, too.

Boozer's Karl Malone-esque 23-point, 22-rebound effort was a big-time boost
for Utah in its thrilling 88-86 victory that trimmed the Los Angeles Lakers'
first-round series lead to 2-1.

Heck, Boozer was so back to his old ways against the longer Lakers, and made
such a big impact, played so well, worked so hard — not through sleet, rain
or hail, but mostly around Pau Gasol — that he even heard more cheers than
jeers from the crowd.

他是打得如此賣力又如此之好。

And that's saying something considering how many boos — and we're not
talking the chummy "Booz!" variety — he's received in the past few months
from frustrated fans.

Whether fair or not, some Utah supporters have questioned his desire to be
here for the long haul because of his mid-season opt-out contract talk and

missed 44 games with a left knee injury and surgery.

When his town and team needed him most, Boozer got the home crowd back on his
side in a big way — probably even the doubters and disappointed — with a
first-half flurry the franchise has never before seen.

Not even, mind you, in the Malone days.

In front of a TNT audience, Boozer snatched rebounds off the glass as
enthusiastically as you'd imagine eclectic reporter Craig Sager grabs funky
and fluorescent outfits from thrift shops. In what he called a "must-win
game," Boozer played like every rebound was a must-grab. He hauled in 11
rebounds in the first quarter, cleaned the glass a total of 16 times by
halftime and finished with 22 boards.

"As long as we win," he said after the big win, "that's all that matters."

Though he was on the bench when his buddies helped the Jazz storm back from a
second-half 13-point deficit, Boozer again made his 266-pound presence known
again down the stretch.

Three times in the final 1-1/2 minutes, Boozer gave the Jazz two-point leads
with strong drives that resulted in free throws, a layup and a left-handed
power jam.

三度為嫩爵取得2分的領先。

Boozer, who's scored 20 or more in all three playoff games, wasn't just a
rebounding machine, though. He had 13 of his team-high 23 points in the first
half. He also swiped a pass from Gasol and made a pair of nifty assists for
inside buckets to Paul Millsap and Ronnie Brewer as the Jazz established
themselves with a much stronger first half. They even had a lead at the break
at 43-39 after trailing by double-digits in the two losses in L.A.

不甘於只做籃板機器的阿布，連續三場都有20分以上表現，
本場獲得全隊最高的23分裡有13分是在上半場攻下，
甚至一度截走耶穌的球，兼且送出助攻給籃下嗷嗷待哺的小米酒，

Brewer's chore? Just stop Bryant

It was much the way Ronnie Brewer envisioned when he was younger. A great
performance against the league's best player. A crowd of media hanging on his
every word. His fan base growing by the day.

小小酒曾經夢想的光景正逐步成為現實：
球場上對抗聯盟最佳球員的耀眼表現、
言行舉止受到媒體關注，還有日益壯大的粉絲。

What he wasn't expecting was this to happen due to his defense.

只是他沒想到，今天這些成就是來自他出色的防守。

With the Jazz facing L.A. in Game 3 of the playoffs tonight at ESA, the onus
is again on Brewer to keep Kobe Bryant under wraps. That's what happened
Thursday, when a combination of Brewer's defense and Bryant's cockeyed aim
produced a 5-for-24 shooting night for the reigning MVP. That was bad news
for the networks, which make a living off marquee players, but good for the
Jazz, who pulled to a 2-1 deficit in the series.

這個季後賽系列，小酒被委以看管Kobe的重責大任，

His job being to tail Bryant from the minute he gets out of bed.

"It's fun to take the challenge to try to slow the best player in the world,"
said Brewer, "so I look forward to the challenge every night."

Guarding people isn't the most glamorous job on earth. Who really wants to
defend? If defending was a great a job, kids would aspire to be in the
National Guard, not the NBA. But no, they want to score.

防守(guard)從來就不是什麼光鮮亮麗的活兒，
誰會想練防守？假如防守真有這麼屌，
21世紀少年們早就都去守衛(guard)地球啦！
認清事實吧，球場上，唯有會得分的人才會被當做潮男。

Brewer wasn't any different. The son of former NBA player Ron Brewer, he went
to college at Arkansas, where he did what all stars do.

小酒，不意外，大學時代曾經也是個在籃球場上出盡風頭的潮男。

"To tell you the truth, I didn't feel like I was a great defensive player. I
was more of a slash, get-to-the-basket, finish type of guy. But I got up to
here and there were a lot of scorers," he said. "For me, to get playing time,
I had to defend."

「講真格的，我不覺得自己防守有強到哪啦，」小酒自白，
「人家比較想當的是那種猛烈衝擊籃框的得分手捏，」
「可不管到哪總有一狗票射手擋在前面，哭哭，」
「想上場打ball，就只能自己認命拼防守呀...」

It's true that in the NBA there are shooters everywhere. What's in short
supply is guys who want to body up. The Jazz have Deron Williams, Carlos
Boozer, Kyle Korver and Mehmet Okur who can score. Yet when Brewer was
drafted in 2006, he didn't know he would largely become a defensive asset.
Despite a lopsided shooting delivery and modest range, he saw himself as an
offensive player.

這也是實情，看看光隊上就有多少人的出手優先權在他前面：
胖老史、瘦老馬、煙斗仔，還有土耳其大個兒。
小酒進聯盟時，壓根沒想過會被定位為防守型球員，
雖然出手姿勢歪斜詭異，兼且欠缺長程火力，
小酒還是一直催眠自己是為得分而生。

Still, he figured out a way to play, taking on the job of guarding some of
the NBA's best scorers. Heaven knows, the Jazz needed him. Thus far in the
playoffs, it has worked out nicely for Brewer. Bryant got 24 and 26 points in
the first two games but didn't get rolling until well into each. On Thursday,
as the crowd booed his every touch, Bryant ricocheted shots off the
JumboTron, the delivery trucks and the advertising panels.

不管如何，他終究是找到了自己的生存之道：
在與聯盟一堆變態搖擺人的戰爭之中討生活。
天佑嫩爵，他的持續成長終於在第三戰為球隊帶來勝利。

"He was missing shots," allowed Brewer. "You can't say you're going to shut
him down."

At the same time, Brewer did his part.

"He just missed shots, but the majority of the time I had a hand in his
face," said Brewer.

Going from scorer to stopper isn't a natural inclination for anyone, Brewer
admitted, calling it a "painful" process.

要從得分手的美夢中醒來，發現自己比較適合當個討人厭的好防守者，
小酒說這件事對他而言的確是個"痛苦"的歷程。

"I mean, if you want to be in the league a long time ... you've got to find a
way to stay on the court and be effective," he said. "I was able to defend a
little and have a little bit of success."

「我是指，你如果想要待在這多撈點養家費，」
「就要想辦法讓教練用你並且做出貢獻，」小酒解釋道，
「對我來說就是在防守上多下點苦功，你也看到成效了。」

That success means Bryant will come at him with a vengeance today. The trick
isn't to stop him, it's to annoy him just enough. Get him thinking about what
you're doing, rather than what he's doing.

這樣的成功也意謂著Kobe在即將到來的比賽中可能會大開殺戒，
這已經不只是擋不擋得住他的問題，更重要的是怎麼讓他失去理智：
別讓他有時間思考自己要怎麼幹，而是逼他去苦惱你會出什麼把戲。

"That's kind of my niche," said Brewer. "Shooting is a plus, but for me to be
on the court, I've got to get stops and be a defensive player."

Scoring is glamorous, but prevention is an art unto itself.

Utah Jazz: As starter, Kirilenko had big Game 3 impact

Utah Jazz forward Andrei Kirilenko logged 27 minutes in Thursday night's
88-86 win over the Los Angeles Lakers. He scored eight points, had three
assists, blocked a shot and made a steal.

七爺在第三戰的艱辛勝利中上場了27分鐘，
拿下8分、3助攻、1個火鍋跟1個抄截。

What he didn't do, however, was grab a single rebound.

唯一沒幹的事兒，就是抓下任何一個籃板。

It didn't matter.

沒差。

Kirilenko made an impact in other ways, stepping into the starting line-up in
place of Kyle Korver.

反正頂替煙斗仔先發的七爺發功大家都見著了。

"A.K. brings a different aspect to the game than Kyle. I thought he came out
and played great basketball," said Deron Williams. "He had some nice cuts to
the basket, some nice passes and he's just a great all-around player."

「七爺帶給我們不同的視野，」八爺說，
「他挺身而出，幾次妙傳、幾次好切...他太全面了！」

And most importantly for the Jazz ...

"We need him to play well for us to have success," Williams added. "And I
thought he played really well (Thursday)."

Kirilenko's energy and help defense helped Utah get off to a strong start at
EnergySolutions Arena.

"Andrei played great," said Carlos Boozer. "He's been an impact player, he's
been a starter before, and he knew how serious the game was yesterday."

The victory allowed Utah to close the series deficit to 2-1.

"We had to change something and I think it worked very well," said Kirilenko,
who acknowledged the line-up switch proved to be productive and helped set
the tone in Game 3.

Although Williams felt he showed more confidence as a starter, Kirilenko said
it really doesn't matter.

"I don't really care what I'm doing as long as I'm on the floor and I'm
helping my teammates," he explained.

Kirilenko's lengthy reach and help defense helped the Jazz keep Lakers star
Kobe Bryant in check. Bryant was 5-of-24 from the field, contributing
mightily to L.A.'s 36.8 field-goal percentage in the game.

頭號對手Kobe與湖人全隊當晚極低的命中率，
功勞簿上顯然也不能忘了記七爺一筆。

While praising the defensive efforts of Kirilenko and his teammates, Williams
noted there may have been an even greater variable in Utah's success.

"I think us being at home was the major factor," he said.

雖然不斷美言七爺是勝利大功臣，
八爺仍舊提醒大家別忘了一點：

「畢竟我們是在地府打球，也許這才是幫助最大的。」

魔獄啊～就這麼繼續沈淪下去吧！！！
