   Andrei Kirilenko and Matt Harpring have been teammates for more than three
 seasons, yet somehow it seems their careers occur in parallel universes.

   They're like the Clippers and Lakers - both call the Staples Center home,
 but only occasionally do you get to watch them play at once.

   No players have scored more points for Utah over the past four seasons than
 Harpring (3,461) and Kirilenko (3,036). They rank 1-2 in rebounds over that
 span, too, and have logged more minutes than any Jazz players.

   Yet the Jazz's small-forward duo has suited up in the same game less than
 three times out of every five games during their time together, just 156 of
 the Jazz's 266 games, or 58.6 percent. Except for Harpring's first season in
 Utah, when they played together 76 times, the pair tends to take turns wearing
 street clothes.

   Harpring hurts his knee, but Kirilenko is healthy. Harpring recovers, but
 Kirilenko's knee goes out. Sprained ankles, broken wrists and inflamed knees
 - all have kept Utah's dynamic duo apart.

   Until now, perhaps. Harpring has slowly recovered from knee surgery, and the
 limit on his minutes has been removed. Kirilenko's bad ankle has healed, and
 his game is showing signs of returning to form.

   The concurrent recoveries last week allowed Jazz coach Jerry Sloan to give
 the 6-foot-7 Harpring and the 6-foot-9 Kirilenko their longest stints
 alongside each other since February. Harpring generally plays his normal small
 forward slot, with Kirilenko moving up to the four spot, or power forward.
 Particularly against Atlanta, that allowed forward Mehmet Okur to shift to
 center - providing the most offensive firepower up front the Jazz have wielded
 since Carlos Boozer's absence began Feb. 14.

   "It's really a good lineup for us because it makes us quicker and harder to
 match up against," said Harpring, who has scored 46 points in his last two

 court. I like to cut and get open, and he's a great passer."

   Kirilenko has made a specialty lately of the drop-off pass, where he drives
 into the lane to draw the defense, then shovels the ball behind the
 shot-blocker to Harpring, cutting to the basket.

   "When I go post up, [opponents] try to double me," Kirilenko said of the
 play. "I have to find the guy who has opening to the basket. Matt gets

   That they play the same position much of the time has never really been an
 issue, due to their versatility. Kirilenko plays both forward positions,
 while Harpring can play guard if necessary. And the Jazz seem to run and pass
 better as a unit when they both are on the floor, because both players like to
 be active away from the ball.

   "We probably move a little better," said Jazz coach Jerry Sloan. "Those guys
 are both energy guys, and they'll both set a screen. . . . It's amazing how
 many good shots you'll get if you go set a screen for someone. The ball just
 seems to find you."

   Sloan said he intends to keep using Kirilenko off the bench, as he has since
 the Russian returned from a seven-game layoff with a sprained ankle, at least
 awhile longer. "I like that idea, of having him come off the bench while he's
 getting himself back together," the coach said. "He comes out with a lot of
 energy, and that has helped Matt play a little better, Memo [Okur] play a
 little better."

   "Now that we're both back, maybe we can use [the lineup] a little more
 often. It makes it fun," Harpring said. "We've both been hurt a lot, and that
 made it hard to get used to each other's games. But I think we can get
 comfortable again, and make it tough on defenses."

   Notes: Center Greg Ostertag received treatment on his inflamed right knee
 on Saturday, and the Jazz will send him for an MRI on Monday, trainer Gary
 Briggs said. His status won't be known until after the test, though a return
 in time to play against the Pistons that night appears unlikely. . . .
 Gordan Giricek, who sat out of Friday's loss to the Sonics, is also doubtful
 for Monday's game. The veteran guard is still suffering from a sore
 Achilles' tendon. . . . Seattle forward Danny Fortson received a one-game
 suspension by the NBA on Saturday for charging referee Mike Callahan and
 verbally abusing him after being ejected from Friday's game against the Jazz.
 Fortson was ejected after striking Jarron Collins in the face with his right
 arm while fighting for a rebound in the fourth quarter of Seattle's victory.
