He won't play in either of the Jazz's games this week, visits to Toronto on
Wednesday night and Indiana on Thursday night that mark their first two
outings of the 2005-06 NBA exhibition season.

  他不會在爵士隊這個禮拜，也就是熱身賽賽程上標著第一場和第二場的，
禮拜三對暴龍，禮拜四對溜馬的比賽中上場。


Utah's Matt Harpring, here in action last season, has yet to practice with
his teammates this season.

      He may not, in fact, play for the first time until Utah's seventh and
final game of the preseason, Oct. 28 vs. Denver at the Delta Center.

      But Matt Harpring, who is of no mind to rush back prematurely from
offseason knee surgery, hardly seems bothered.

      The veteran forward who played a leadership role during a trying
2004-05 season, and who anticipates doing just that again this season, knew
all along that the road to recovery would be no short block.

份繼續奮鬥著，他也知道這樣的復原過程不會是個短期的傷害而已。


      "I'm sticking to the game plan," he said Monday, the first day in the
second week of training camp for the Jazz. "I've been doing good. So far,
really no big setbacks. It's just (a matter of) getting it back ready to play
again."

    「我的計畫緊跟著比賽。」他禮拜一說。爵士隊訓練營第二個禮拜的第一天。

      So there has been no scrimmaging. No hard practices. Shoot, as Harpring
himself says, "The last time I ran up and down the court was our last game of
the year, back at Golden State — April 20."

   所以沒有自我練習，沒有很硬的練習，投球，就像 Harpring自己說的一樣，
「我上一次跑步，然後下場打球就是上一季的最後一場，在勇士隊主場 ---

      Just a few days after that date — and who could not remember the
merciful end to a 26-56 season? — Harpring underwent microfracture surgery
on the same right knee that had undergone the same sort of surgery back in
January 2004.

      The damage found and repaired this time was similar, albeit in a
different spot, as the first.

      So for now there will be no preseason play — at least not until it is
absolutely necessary.
      "I expect it to get sore every now and then," he said. "It's not going
to be all of a sudden ready to go. It's just going to be a gradual thing, and
take some time.

  所以現在不會有季前熱身賽 ---- 至少在完全必要（可以打）之前不會開始。

  「我希望希望他能夠繼續痛，」他說。「這不是那種可以突然起身就動的事情

      "The goal is to be ready by the regular season (which for the Jazz
begins Nov. 2). That's my goal. Hopefully it's still going to happen. But the
last thing I want to do is push it right now, and then get it sore and have
to take 10 days off. I don't want to do that. I want to keep getting better.

  「我的目標是能夠在開季就回來（爵士隊是 11 月 2號。）這是我的目標。希
望可以這樣。不過我最不想做的事是太過於急躁，然後他又痠了，我又要休息十
天之類的。我不想要這樣。我想要越來越好。」


      "I'm very optimistic," Harpring added. "It's done very well, and I'm
going to keep going with it."

  「我非常樂觀。」 Harpring補充。「現在整個很不錯，而我會繼續下去。」

      Harpring is able to be so high-spirited in large part because he has a
pretty good basis for comparison.

  Harpring 可以繼續這樣高昂的精神，很大一部份是因為他有個很好的比較基礎。

      "I'm much more optimistic this time than I was last time. It just feels
good," he said. "Last time, it seemed like it was a longer rehab process. I'm
at a little over five months now. At a little over five months last time, I
wasn't nearly where I am now."

  「我這次比上億更樂觀。我感覺很不錯。」他說。「上次，那感覺像是個更久
的復健過程。我現在經過了稍微超過五個月，上次五個月之後，我的狀況沒有像
現在這麼好。」

      As much as Harpring appears unworried, Jazz coach Jerry Sloan does not
seem overly concerned about the time in training camp being lost by his
third-leading scorer from a season ago.

  因為 Harpring 沒在擔心，所以爵士隊教練 Sloan也沒有太過於擔心這個去年
在隊上得分排名第三的球員，沒有參加訓練營這件事。


      "He's been here. He's watched what we've done," Sloan said of Harpring,
who has averaged 15.8 points during his three seasons in Utah, including 14.0
over 78 games last season. "He played in what we were doing a couple of years
ago, so the stuff we're doing, I think, he understands pretty well."


  「他一直在這裡。他看到我們在幹嘛。」 Sloan談到 Harpring ，他三年在爵

      The Jazz are changing their primary offensive set from the two-guard
front they have utilized the last two seasons to the old set they last used
during Harpring's first year with the Jazz, which also happened to be the
last year in Utah for John Stockton and Karl Malone.

  爵士隊今年的進攻陣式從前兩年使用的「雙衛」陣型，轉回了兩年前 Harpring
剛進來爵士隊的時候的那種，那也是 Stockton 和 Malone 在猶他最後一年的陣勢。

      The season after Stockton retired and Malone left for the Los Angeles
Angeles Lakers, Harpring — until the bad knee cut his season short —
 stepped up as a team leader. He was also a co-captain — along with guard
Raja Bell, who bolted for Phoenix as a free agent this past summer — as the
Jazz struggled a season ago.

  在 Stockton 退休， Malone 去湖人之後， Harpring ---- 直到他的膝蓋讓他
球季提前結束之前 ---- 都是隊上的領導者。他也和後衛 Raja Bell 一起當隊長，
 Bell 今年以自由球員的身份加盟了太陽。而他當隊長的時候，也剛好是爵士隊最

      Now, Harpring stands again — on one good knee, and another twice
surgically repaired — as a voice of experience on a team somewhat void of
just that.

  現在， Harpring 繼續起身 ---- 雖然只有一個膝蓋是好的，另一個兩次手術過
 ---- 成為一個缺少經驗的球隊中，一個代表著經驗的聲音。

      "I've been through a lot, which is good," said Harpring, who played in
Orlando, Cleveland and Philadelphia during the first four of his seven NBA
seasons. "I've had different coaches, been on different teams, seen how they
do things."

  「我已經經歷了很多，這是好事。」 Harpring 說。他曾在生涯七年的前四年

      The 29-year-old Harpring is prepared to pass the knowledge he has
gained along, too — even if that is all he can contribute for now.
      "With the young guys, that can be beneficial — because sometimes they
don't get a grasp on how it is in different places," he said. "They may
think, 'Oh, I'm not playing here, I know I can play on another team.' But the
grass isn't usually greener on the other side."

 二十九歲的 Harpring正準備要傳授這些他得來的經驗 ---- 即便他可能不能馬
上現在就上場。

  「和這些年輕球員在一起，是有益處的 ---- 因為有些時候他們不知道到另一
個地方視怎麼樣的情況。」他說。「他們可能會想，『喔，我不在這裡打球，我
可以到其他地方打球去。』 不過外面的世界，不一定會比較精彩。」
