Brewer's Big Summer Plans. By Johnathan Kendrick Ronnie Brewer came in to the summer league with an opportunity. An opportunity to show he belongs in the Jazz rotation. Hampered by hamstring and ankle injuries Brewer was limited to virtually no practice or game time. If he wants to show the coaching staff and fans he has progressed and that he belongs, it will have to be at the fall camp. That leaves the summer to get ready. A summer that from the sounds of it will keep Brewer busy. "First, I have to get my hamstring healed.」 Brewer tells me, but from the way he is talking, it doesn't look like that should be too much of a problem. At least he hopes not because his plans start at the end of July. "There is an assistant coaches clinic at the end of this month in Las Vegas. A lot of pros work out at it, D-Will went to it last year. I plan on going to it" Brewer tells me "if I am 100 percent." Brewer, arguably is the most athletic player the Jazz have on the roster. You won't find him resting on his credentials though. After the clinic in Vegas he will be heading to California. "I plan to go to Santa Barbara and work out there with Hafa and his trainer. They have like this compound where you do a lot of explosive stuff to help your athleticism. Lots of stretches, lifting weights, conditioning, a lot of stuff to help your body endure the NBA season." He doesn't mention any other names but adds that a few other players will be joining the group. If there is a question about Brewer, it's his shot. Not only is the stroke unorthodox, due to a childhood injury - but people question the shots consistency and range. Brewer who proved he can finish around the hoop has not forgot about the jumper this summer. "I plan on going back to Arkansas and continue to work on my shot, continue to lift weights and get stronger." I was curious who was going to help him with his shot. The obvious answer might be his NBA Alum father Ron Brewer Sr. "My dad does help a little bit. I have also worked with some of the coaches here a lot. The majority is just repetition, making it a habit, where it's an everyday thing, one motion. It's repetition, you can do it by yourself, just get on a machine and shot a bunch of shots." Curiously I asked him to define "a bunch of shots." "At least 500-1000, I've got to make at least 500-1000 so I will shoot a lot of shots each day." The locker room was noisy and buzzing with media. Millsap had just had a brilliant game that ended up earning him RMR MVP honors and 10 feet from Brewer and myself there are 20 reporters huddled around Millsap asking questions. I had to make sure I heard that last part correct. "Did you say you are going to make 500-1000 shots, or take 500-1000 shots every day?" "You could just take em" he responds slowly at first "but that doesn't mean you're making them. I gotta MAKE 500-1000 shots a day." Brewer finishes the statement smiling and with confidence. The kind of confidence he hopes to bring to his shot and his game next year. The kind of confidence it sounds like he is willing to work for. http://www.jazzhoops.net/articles/article111.htm -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 219.135.156.91
