  Palacio is speaking his mind
  And his teammates seem to be responding to his vocal intensity

      He is less than a quarter-way into his first season in Utah. He is the
    quintessential journeyman, with stops in Toronto, Cleveland, Phoenix,
    Boston and Vancouver. He doesn't have a huge contract and in fact has a
    one-year deal that only ensures there is no telling where he might play
    next season.

      他在猶他的第一個球季還過不到四分之一，他是典型的浪人球員，曾在多倫多、

      Yet point guard Milt Palacio, high on the list of least-likely
    candidates, is the one emerging as vocal leader of the Jazz.

      Not surprisingly for someone eager and anxious to fill such a role,
    he also is quite willing to talk about it.

      "I just felt we do need a voice in this locker room," the
    seventh-season NBA veteran said from a stool in front of his changing
    stall at the Delta Center, "and I felt if I can do that and the guys
    can trust me, then why not?"

      Fair question.

      The Jazz do have designated captains, most notably Matt Harpring and
    Andrei Kirilenko. They have guys playing their fifth season or more in
    Utah — Kirilenko, Greg Ostertag, Jarron Collins. They have guys making
    the big bucks, including Kirilenko and Mehmet Okur.

      爵士已經有指派隊長了，他們是MATT和AK，爵士也有在球隊待超過五年的老將，

      And they even have a rookie point some hope eventually will become
    the franchise's leader for years and years to come, Deron Williams.

      What they have not had since Raja Bell left Utah for Phoenix via free
    agency, however, is someone willing to speak his mind, get in the ears
    of teammates and tell it like it is.

      Until, that is, Palacio — walking the fine line between knowing his
    place and knowing his team's needs — recently decided the time to step
    up was no better than the present.

      "I was a little quiet before," he said, "but now I'm just trying to
    get a little more vocal.

    'Hey, you're not playing good tonight. You're not playing good in one

      "Matt (Harpring) and A.K. (Kirilenko) and those guys are great leaders
    by example," Palacio added, "but sometimes you need a guy that's gonna
    talk it up and tell guys, 'Listen, this is what we're gonna do tonight;
    this is how we're gonna play.' "

      「MATT和AK或是其他人都是很好的領導者。」Palacio補充道：「不過有時候你需
    要有人站出來大聲講『聽著，這就是我們今天晚上要做的事，這就是我們的打法』」

      It's really only over the last week or so that Palacio's voice has
    grown louder.

      Picking the proper time, though, may be as critical to being heard as
    what is actually being said.

      挑對時間發言，就跟清楚的聽出話中的意含一樣的關鍵。

      "You have to know other guys' personalities," Palacio said. "You
    don't want to talk to a guy one way and he kind of responds, 'You know
    what? Shut up' or, 'I don't want to hear that.' "

      「你必須要了解每個人的個性。」Palacio說：『你不會希望跟某人說了些事情後
    他跟你說『你懂啥？給我閉嘴』或是『我不想聽這些』。」

      So far, no one has said as much.

      至少目前還沒有人說這些話。

      In fact, Palacio's words — sometimes of encouragement, sometimes of
    challenge — so far have been rather well-received.

      事實上，Palacio那些有時充滿鼓勵，有時又像是挑戰的話語，已經慢慢被隊友接
    受。

      "Lately, Milt has stepped in there and tried to give us a kick in the
    butt, from a teammate's perspective, when we need it. He's been good,"
    Collins said.

      「最近，Palacio在我們需要的時候，常常試圖從隊友的觀點踢我們屁股(提出異
    議)，我想他不錯。」杰倫說。

      "Milt's a vet, and everybody respects him. He's been around, and he's
    seen a lot of different things. He's professional about the way he
    approaches the game, so everybody respects that."

      "They (teammates) do listen to him, because they know what he's
    about — and he wants to win," rookie C.J. Miles added. "He's not going
    to steer you wrong. People see that everybody's coming together for that
    one thing (winning), then there's no reason not to listen to him."

      「隊友們真的會聽他的，因為隊友們知道他在說些啥，他也的確想贏球。」菜鳥
    C.J.Miles說：「他不會大聲指責你的錯誤，我們都知道我們聚集在此是為了什麼
    (贏球)，所以沒有理由不聽他說。」

      Sometimes, Palacio's message is succinct and said to all.

      有的時候，Palacio的話語十分簡潔並且是向大家說的。

      "His pregame speech (in the locker room prior to Wednesday's victory
    over Atlanta) was very appropriate," Collins said. "He said, 'You know
    what we have to do. Let's go.' "

      「他的賽前演說(在對老鷹的比賽之前在休息室中說的)說的很棒，他說：『去
    吧，你們知道我們該做些啥。』」

      Other times, he gathers teammates on the floor during a break in play
    and delivers an individually directed dose of hard, cold reality.

      也有的時候在比賽中的空檔他會召集隊友並給一些人冷酷卻現實的建議。

      "I was holding everybody accountable," he said of his words in the
    midst of the win over the Hawks. "A couple times maybe A.K. (Kirilenko)
    got beat or Giri (Gordan Giricek) got beat, and I'd come up to them and
    say, 'Listen, you've got to stop your man. It's all 1-on-1. That's all
    Atlanta does is 1-on-1.'

      「我只是向每個人說明而已。」Palacio提及對老鷹一戰當中他給隊友的一些建
    議：「有時AK被吃，有時小吉被吃，所以我過去跟他們說『你們要阻止你們負責的

      "So, I told them, 'You know, you have to accept the challenge. We're
    gonna help you, but it's gonna start off when you accept the challenge.' "

      「所以我跟他們說：『要知道，你們要回應他們的挑戰，我們會幫助你們，但是
    你們要先接受他們的挑戰才行。』」

      In that instance, they responded.

      很快的，他們在場上做出回應。

      How long it all lasts remains to be seen. Jazz coach Jerry Sloan,
    though, thinks it will for a while to come.

      這種情況有多久了呢？史隆認為已經有一陣子了。

      "He has a good demeanor to deal with his teammates," Sloan said. "He'll
    get on a guy a little bit — but I don't think it's in a way that's going
    to alienate (him)."

      「他在跟隊友相處上有良好的態度。」史隆說：「他很容易和人相處融洽，我也
    不認為這樣(跳出來說話)會讓他與隊友疏遠。」

      Even beyond what Palacio says, though, Sloan seems to appreciate more
    what he has been doing lately.

      除了他的話語之外，史龍顯然對Palacio最近的表現也很滿意。

      Williams is still starting, but Palacio has been finishing — and
    mostly getting the job done.

      DW仍然是先發控衛，但在比賽末段上場的是Palacio，他通常也把這工作做的很好。

      In last Sunday's win at Portland he had eight assists in 21 minutes.
    Wednesday vs. Atlanta, he had 10 points and nine assists in 35 minutes
    while Williams logged just 13.

    鷹，他在35分鐘內得到10分九助攻，而DW只打了13分鐘。

      "Whatever play we decide to call, he just runs the play and gets us in
    it — and then we execute," Sloan said. "That's experience . . . And
    that's the thing Deron (Williams) has to learn in this business: Whatever
    we're doing, we don't just casually approach it. You've got to approach
    it with the idea that 'We're gonna make this thing work,' and it starts
    with the point guard."

      「不管我們決定打哪種戰術，他都會跑的好好的並讓全隊都融入戰術中，然後我
    們就得分了，這就是經驗。這也是DW在這門藝術上還需要學習的。我們並不是臨時

      Sloan suggested Williams sometimes has even been playing in what
    appears to be "slow motion."

      Palacio, meanwhile, was hailed for up-tempo play, a pass-first
    mentality and his hard cutting.

      Palacio以他那快節奏的打法、傳球為重的心態和強硬的切入倍受稱讚。

      "He's used to getting knocked around," Sloan said of Palacio, a
    27-year-old undrafted veteran out of Colorado State. "Deron hasn't run
    through traffic as much, because he can stay outside and play. That's
    part of what he has to learn."

      「Palacio比較習於衝撞。」史隆提到這名27歲的科羅拉多老鳥時這樣說：「DW不
    太常切入，因為他可以待在外圍控制球賽。他對這部份還要多學習。」

      Palacio, Sloan added, has "confidence to go where he wants to go and
    get us into what we're doing."

      He also has enough left-over confidence to say what must be said, which
    Palacio hopes his coach considers pure icing.

      他還有足夠的自信去說該說的話，Palacio希望他的教練全然的冷酷。(意思應該

      "I know (Sloan) wants somebody to kind of step up and say, 'Listen,
    this is what we have to do,' " he said. "If he wants me to chew somebody
    out and then pat them on the butt, that's what I'm gonna do."

     「我知道教練希望有個人站出來說『聽好，這就是我們該做的。』」Palacio說，
    如果他要我狠狠的罵某人或踢某人屁股，我就會照做。」
