Rocky Mountain Revue: Day Three by: Matt Kamalsky July 17, 2007 Game Three: Utah Jazz 71, San Antonio Spurs 75 Morris Almond 4 Points, 2 Rebounds, 3 Fouls, 2-10 FG -Almond had a hard time getting his shot off tonight, as he was marked by a San Antonio defender for the duration of the game. -Almond did hit one nice midrange jumper, but needs to get better separation on the perimeter if he wants to score efficiently. -Almond isn't a freak athlete, and needs to learn how to use his teammates to get open, a skill he will only develop with experience. Late in the game, Almond did show the ability to get to the rim using a quick crossover and spin move. -- Rocky Mountain Revue: Day Four by: Matt Kamalsky July 19, 2007 Game Three: Utah Jazz 102, Seattle Sonics 88 18 Points, 2 Rebounds, 1 Assist, 2 Blocks, 3 Turnovers, 3 Fouls, 7-15 FG, 1-2 3FG, 3-3 FT -Almond bounced back from his poor performance last night by scoring on Kevin Durant consistently throughout this game. -Almond's shot was back on today, and he was knocking down shots off of curls from as far out as the NBA three-point line. -Almond used his jump shots to set up his drives, and got around Durant on numerous occasions for floaters in the paint. -Almond also showed unbelievable timing, rejecting two shots by anticipating the moves of Seattle's post players. -- Rocky Mountain Revue Day 5 by: Jonathan Givony July 20, 2007 Game Three: Utah Jazz 88, Atlanta Hawks 86 18 Points, 3 Rebounds, 2 Steals, 3 Turnovers, 3 Fouls, 7-14 FG, 0-4 3FG, 4-6 FT -Almond might not have had a spectacular showing, but he did enough here and over the course of the week to prove that he has both an immediate NBA skill and plenty of upside to develop into a solid contributor down the road. -Coming off curls, there are few rookies in this class (Marco Belinelli possibly excluded) that understand how to move off the ball and find a good shot the way Almond can. He can't do this from NBA range quite yet (although that will come too), but from mid-range he just does a beautiful job of creating separation from his defender and releasing a picture perfect shot. -Almond has a fantastic frame for the 2-guard position. He really looks the part of an NBA player -Almond's ball-handling skills aren't NBA ready yet, but he is smart enough to find holes in the defense to put the ball on the floor for a short dribble or two to make his way to the basket.
