http://www.sltrib.com/jazz/ci_10866122 Utah Jazz: Morris Almond's option won't be picked up The Jazz are giving up on 2007 first-round draft pick Morris Almond. That decision comes after only one season in which Almond set scoring records in the NBA Development League, but played in only nine games for a total of 39 minutes with the Jazz. Almond said he was told by Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor that the team would not exercise the third-year option, worth $1.157 million, in his rookie contract to bring him back for the 2009-10 season. "I've seen that coming for a while," Almond said. Almond will become an unrestricted free agent after this season but he said the Jazz have been working to trade him this week. He added that his fate was likely sealed when the Jazz matched an offer sheet to C.J. Miles this summer. "Something had to give," Almond said, "and this is the start of that." Playing behind Ronnie Brewer and Miles, Almond spent the bulk of his rookie season with the D-League's Utah Flash. He scored 53 points in one game with the Flash, 51 in another and was named the league's impact player of the year. Even though the Jazz didn't exercise the option and are working to trade him, Almond has a place on the active roster right now with Matt Harpring still recovering from an ankle infection. If Almond is traded, two potential destinations are San Antonio and Detroit. Both teams were interested in Almond leading up to the 2007 draft. Almond worked out twice for the Spurs and was convinced he was heading there after a dinner with coach Gregg Popovich. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 118.169.36.132
