Utah Jazz: Williams expects Kobe to answer bell

NEW ORLEANS - With Kobe Bryant either having to play in Sunday's NBA All-Star
game or sit out the L.A. Lakers' next game, Jazz guard Deron Williams had all
but abandoned hope Friday of being selected to play as an injury replacement.

Bryant is suffering from a torn ligament in his right pinkie but is choosing
to play through the injury rather than undergoing surgery. Because he played
in the Lakers' game Wednesday, Bryant is required to make at least a token
appearance in the All-Star Game.

由於柯比在右手小指韌帶撕裂傷後繼續出賽，
因此依規定他還是得在明星賽中亮相。

By playing in his team's last game before the All-Star break, Bryant must
play Sunday or be forced to sit out the Lakers' next game. If the league
relents, Williams could be chosen as Bryant's replacement just a day before
the game.

如果柯比臨時缺席明星賽，下一場湖人比賽他會被處罰沒得打。
不過此事成真的話，狄龍就能以遞補身份參加明星賽。

"It would be weird, but I don't think it's going to happen, so I'm not really
worried about it,'' said Williams, who has the advantage as a replacement
pick of already being in New Orleans and taking part in tonight's skills
competition.

"If they want [Bryant] out there for a minute, he'll probably do it, he'll

Carlos Boozer could only lament that the Jazz's 5-11 December cost Williams a
chance at playing in his first All-Star Game.

 "Us losing those games really hurt him,'' Boozer said "because if we were in
the top two or three [in the standings] when the voting went down, then I
think he would have been in the game regardless."

USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo confirmed that Boozer will
be included in the pool of 18 players from which the Olympic team will be
chosen. Boozer will attend a training camp in Las Vegas before the final
roster of 12 is announced June 30.

柯蘭傑洛證實布瑟將會出現在奧運代表隊的初選名單中，
在6/30宣布最後12名正選球員前，布瑟將會參加賭城的訓練營。

Although Boozer did not play for USA Basketball the last two summers,
Colangelo decided to make an exception because Boozer had committed to play
in the Americas tournament before learning his 1-year-old son needed a
bone-marrow transplant.

"There are a few occasions where I use the autonomy I have to give a player a
pass,'' Colangelo said, adding, "His game is something we don't have much on
that roster, a power forward with an inside, post-up game, and so we really
wanted him last summer."

Colangelo said Boozer "would have been a great addition, but he couldn't do
it," and added that the Jazz forward's history of playing for U.S. coach Mike
Krzyzewski at Duke didn't hurt. "He's not going to be surprised by anything
we're doing," Colangelo said.

Williams was the U.S.'s No. 3 point guard at the Americas tournament, but
Colangelo would not guarantee that Williams will be on the Olympic roster.
His primary competition appears likely to come from New Orleans' Chris Paul.

美錦賽時擔任三號控衛的狄龍，
柯蘭傑洛卻表示不能保證他會繼續留在奧運名單上，
一個可能的原因是來自同梯保羅的競爭。

Colangelo called Williams "a terrific player and great understudy," but added
that he faced tough decisions about the Nos. 9-12 players on the roster.
"I'll just say Deron Williams is a big part of USA Basketball's future,''
Colangelo said.

柯蘭傑洛稱狄龍是個"充滿潛力的狠角色"，
不過也坦承9-12號球員的挑選讓他一個頭兩個大，

Williams assessed his chances by saying, "I've never got cut from a team,"
and said he thought he impressed the coaches last summer. "I'm there for the
team,'' Williams said. "I can be a cheerleader if they want me to."

狄龍則自我評估說：「嘎力貢，拎北從來沒被哪支球隊刷掉過...」
他更強調去年美錦賽他的表現已經讓教練團印象深刻。
「要叫我啊，就算要我當啦啦隊長，我也還是想去啊...嗚!@#$%」

Boozer has dropped hints all season that Krzyzewski promised him a spot this
summer. He played limited minutes on the bronze-medal winning team at the
2004 Olympics and was eager for a chance at gold in Beijing.

布瑟則不斷暗示大家，K教練已經為他預留了北京行的位置。
上屆奧運沒有太多上場機會的他，渴望這次奪金的機會。

"You don't want to be the only team in history that didn't win a gold medal
and we are that team,'' Boozer said, referring to the Dream Team era. "To
have an opportunity to rectify that, we all look forward to it."

「沒人想當史上唯一沒奪金的夢幻隊吧？—結果就是我們。」
布瑟尷尬地說，「既然有機會雪恥，去是一定要的啦！」
