Valen blooms as she pines
HUA KAI - Valen Hsu
(What's Music) - 3.5/5.0
VALEN HSU may purr sweetly, but do not under-estimate this Taiwanese seraph
when it comes to pulverising the competition.
Flying high with Valen Hsu as she blooms on Hua Kai. On Hua Kai, which means
flower blooming, this woman takes her unique art of gentle devastation to a
rarefied level where nothing else matters. It is as if she has got nothing to
lose anymore. You might even believe if they said she doesn't need oxygen.
For no one knows how to pine as elegantly as Ms Hsu. How can anybody remain
standing, listening to her whispery melismatics in One Second Left For Love,
a gorgeous complaint which scales to heaven as the woman flies higher and
higher into the cirrus?
With a stellar production crew including singer-songwriter Kay Huang,
lyricist Lin Xi and mainlander artiste Liu Qing, Hsu is a goddess in good
hands.
Anyone would be mesmerised by the confidence with which she wraps her
tear-soaked soprano around such good ol' humdingers as the jazzy Christmas
Without You and Willing To Love You.
Whether covering a heart-stirring tune by Mandalay or throwing a tantrum in
Irritating, the songstress remains untethered from earthy concerns.
Long live Valen.
