CAREW: "THE MATCH AGAINST ROME COMES AT A GOOD TIME FOR US"
John Carew expects to come up against a Rome with its pride hurt after
Valencia CF’s victory last Wednesday in the Olympic Stadium. The author
of the goal in the Italian coliseum made it clear in the press room at the
club’s training facilities in Paterna that Capello’s team will go all out
at Mestalla making the most of their last chance to classify for the quarter
finals. Although he believes our team will add another victory to their
recent run of triumphs. "Rome has recovered a couple of players and they
have come here to try and win because it is their last chance. If we play as
we know how I am convinced we are going to win the match". The Norwegian
forward added that in his opinion the Italian team will put on a better show
of football than they did seven days ago because "they will be more relaxed
away from home as there is a lot of pressure on them in the Olympic Stadium
and it is possible that the match here will be more difficult that the one in
Rome, or maybe it will be easier, that will depend on us".
The Valencian player put the most optimistic side of his character on show
saying "we are in good form at the moment and on a roll. The match against
Rome comes at a good time for us. Winning tomorrow is vitally important and
we should not think about the other match. If we win we will be much closer
to our objective". Incidentally, our player has a clear idea as to who is
going to get through to the quarter finals of the top continental competition,
"I think Valencia CF and Arsenal will classify". Another of the factors in
favour of Valencia CF tomorrow is that fact that they are playing such an
important match against such a great rival at their home ground, Mestalla.
For Carew "the crowd is very important for us. It is an important match and
we hope to play great football as we did against Rayo. We want to get the
three points so that the fans can enjoy the match". Finally and on more
personal issues the footballer finds himself "with a lot of power and energy
so I can work hard. It is always nice to score but it is more important for
us to win". Furthermore, he showed enormous self confidence not fearing the
players he is going to come up against in the Roman defence, such as Walter
Samuel who was not in the first leg, "I have not thought about that, only
about what I have to do and not about their defenders".
