VALENCIA CF vs. REAL MURCIA CF The cup returns to Mestalla after a break of almost four years. Valencia will be playing this next one-off round in their own stadium on the 17th of December, according to the luck of the draw carried out in Madrid today 31st of October. The last time Mestalla played host to a cup fixture was on the 12th of January 2000, when a 2-0 win over Pamplona's Osasuna was of no help at all, having lost in the Navarran capital 3-0 in the first leg versus a team that at that point was still in the Second Division, back in the times of Hector Cuper. That elimination against Osasuna was the beginning of an awful journey in the Cup, in which Valencia has taken part in all manner of situations, not just of a sporting nature, and normally resulting in elimination against teams from the Second B division. Benitez, once he knew we were playing against Murcia, declared to the press that "We have an advantage to begin with" because this match is played in Mestalla and there is no return leg. Benitez said that Murcia is "a block with good footballers of a good level. It's always an advantage to play at home of course because the of the home crowd support". Valencia's coach added that "these heads or tails matches always give everyone a bit of a buzz. It's going to be pretty and I hope the result will favour us", he added hopefully.
