Postgame Quotes:
Q : Talk about your game winning drive :
Vince Carter: I didn't have the game winning drive, I just knew I had to get
to the basket, had to make a play. The team had the confidence in me to give
me the basketball. He was going to have to make the decision, I was going to
have to go to the basket somehow, either going off of Kevin's (Garnett)
picks, or go baseline. And he jumped on the pickso I went baseline and I had
some concentration because the big fellow was there and I had to shoot over
him. The little floater that I've been missing all tournament happened to
go in.
This is what you dream of, on offense and defense, the opportunity to win
the game or have a spectacular defensive play. I just wanted to get the job
done, whether it was putting the ball in the basket or finding the open man.
Q : What's it like to have that kind of confidence from your team ?
Carter: It feels good. Actually it's the confidence of the players because
we went down. It really wasn't a play, we were spread out, waiting for a call
and (Gary Payton) gave the ball to me and said to do what you need to do.
That made me feel good. That's a great feeling, especially on this team,
when you're the youngest guy and a guy tells you that. I just buckled down
and was going to make he play, whether it was putting it in the basket
or finding the open man.
